Other than the basic strikes (Men, Kote, Do, tsuki) what are some of the other names for strikes used in Kendo? For example: - To strike the right or left side of the Men would be called? ....So on and so forth -Troy |

Hmm. Well, I assume right and left strikes to the men would be migi and hidari (sayuu) men respectively. Gyaku do is a hit to the left side of your opponent's do and hidari kote is hitting the left kote when you're fighting someone in Jodan. I think that's all there is left... Back in the day, you could get a stab to the chest too, which is something I think should still be around, personally. |

I found something else that helped me clarify some things that we don't really go over in class Maai |

Well we should try and go over maai then. Because... it's... pretty important... and stuff. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkcDFCBDmBQ&feature=related Here is a fantastic demonstration of maai, posture, and zanshin. It is also quite rare to see this kind of kamae. The patience of each player is inhuman. I can't believe they could stay so focused for so long without rushing into the attack. Very carefully considered and well done. We could all use this level of poise. |
