Greetings.

As the title say,i have this problem with sony vegas 8.0 Pro.When i add an avi file (xvid rendered) my sony vegas is hardly responding. The problem is more intent when the filesize is big.

Usualy i m trying to edit files with size 1680x1050 x25FPS with average size 500Mb.

I tried reinstaling X-Vid codec but didn't helped.

My pc is :
2.3GHZ Dual Core CPU
3.2Giga (4Giga installed) RAM
Lot of S-Ata HDD
G Force 9600Gt
22" Widescreen + 16" 4:3 Screen.

Problem got fixed when i COMPLETELY uninstalled Xvid codec.

from experience I have found vegas to struggle with large file sizes It seems to only let you render out in sizes like 720x480 or 800x600 anything higher and it crashed for me. It could be my pc wasn't fast enough and also If I added too many large videos it seemed too much for vegas to handle. Again i dont know if this was my pc causing this but I moved on to use premiere and left vegas behind

Hey again.Yesterday i did some tests.I completely uninstalled all of my codecs and then downloaded/installed K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. Also i increased Dynamic RAM Preview value to max which for me was 1024Mb and now things are much better.

Don't realy know which of those 2 helped but all i know is that now seems to be better.

sometimes you ca get conflict issues with codecs, I used the kazaa lite codec pack and it worked well. The mega codec pack actually caused an issue with a seperate bit of software I used and had to go

i had a problem with a file from after effects that was 800mb big and 14sec long, then the render preview won't play properly. what you could do is edit a smaller copy of you file and replace it with the bigger one after you did everything ;)

Well, after uninstalling every single codec-reboot-Install K-Lite Mega Codec Pack with default settings, everything seems to work good. Now i edited my movie, with the full length of the video (650Mb) without any problem.

Rendered movie is available at this post. Please check it :)

Sony Vegas (which i tried and threw away because of this) is horrible for large filesizes. Anything larger than a dvd (usually 5 gigs), and it will run bad. It is also not supported for vista, as it crashes very frequently.

Hmm. it seems like Divx and Xvid and H.264 are great files to export to, but not to edit with. Premier wont even open them. Its sad, I have no way of converting them to edit them.
