Where is my mental ray?

FX Video Editor Posts: 122 Group: Members Member #326 Joined: October 18, 2008	Hi guys, I recently reinstalled my Maya2009, but now when I'm about to texture a model I noticed that I have no mental ray materials... I have nothing except the standard lambert,phong etc. I can't remember that I have to install mental ray separatly from the disk?but perhaps I have to? I say that they have released service pack 1 for 2009 so I will have to reinstall it either way. But do you have to install the mental ray objects separatly?

Visual Effects Student Posts: 175 Group: Moderators Member #170 Joined: March 20, 2008	Nope skuggan. mental ray is included with a standard install. Go Windows-> Settings and Preferences-> Plugin Manager and make sure Mayatomr.mll has both the Loaded and Auto Load boxes checked. If they are both checked, and you can actually render using mental ray, but can't see the mental ray shaders in the hypershade, open up hypereshade and in the create panel on the left it may say Create Maya Nodes. If it does, click it and hold the left mouse button and change it to Create All Nodes. Now if you scroll down you will see all of your mental ray shaders and whatnot too. If thats still not the issue, post back and let me know.

Thanks man Thats great cause I'm on a vaccation so I wouldn't have any way of reaching my disk for a re-install But now I can get back at doing some work ttyl
