FIRST THREAD: in the begining

David climbed onto the spinning carousel, flanked by his boys, a light grin on his face as they slowly walked the circling platform of bouncing wood carved and painted horses. They were sizing up the crowd, nothing more. It was Dwayne who'd first noticed the pattern. Tourist season was slowly drawing to a close and the few left would lost likely gravitate around the slowly spinning platform as the night wore on.

Slim picking tonight but they found a small group, seated in the sled and talking loudly over the piano roll of Waltzing Matilda. It was a song from before the chaos of the 60's changed things. The music now was alright, wild and pounding and for once not speaking about better times or a hopeful future or even worse... god. He liked it. The decade suited him just fine. But every once in a while it was nice to heard an older song, even if it was a piano roll.

He gave the slightest nod and Paul moved in, sitting down between the two girls and chatting them up. If all went well he'd be fully turned by sunrise. Marko turned and took the other seat, beside the boy. It was a very crowed sled indeed and he and Dwayne continued to circle the platform A loud buzz and a different set of gears below kicked on. The ride was over.

The now group of seven left the platform and in the crowd the boy slipped away. Some skinny kid with no fashion sense made it halfway to the security stand before they got him back. He smirked as the fat guard waddled over. David knew that next time they met the man would do something. The girls, clearly drunk mumbled something about how he had panic attacks and the guard ordered them all off the boardwalk. That was their play all along and gave them all another nod and they were off.

He smiled to a local girl at a kiosk, just a friendly polite nod. The sort you'd see maybe a thousand times a day. "hopefully they'll keep ya open during the off season. Seems to be a thicker than usual crowd. At least the Nazis have been too busy to bother the boardwalk lately. Maybe the tourists'll keep em off the beach as well." His boys went on, lead on by Dwayne. He'd catch up to them in a minute.

Cameron had been stocking a few new sunglasses designs, not really paying much attention to the scene around her. The boardwalk wasn't really a big deal when you've lived in Santa Carla for the past 6 years of you life. It just seemed to lose it's sparkle during the time she had lived there. The tourists, however lived for the Boardwalk.. They loved the amusement park, which in her opinion really needed an upgrade to be even somewhat exciting, and they loved the shops that lined the pier, which really weren't that bad...except when you worked there.

She had been hired because they wanted someone young and hip to hopefully draw in customers and increase sales. Unfortunately for her they hadn't told her that she'd be working alone at the kiosk 4 nights a week. What a way to spend your summer. Putting the rest of the sunglasses in to cupboard, she turned and leaned against the kiosk, watching the crowd around her.

And then they walked by. The same group of guys she saw every night she worked, clad in leather with long hair and piercings. They were the kind of guys that parents used as an example of who not to hang out with. There was just something about them that screamed dangerous, which wasn't too far off considering they often caused trouble and got kicked out. As the passed her, the blonde one, who almost seemed to be the leader, offered a nod which she returned with a smile.

As he stopped to talk to her she watched his group of friends continue on, turning her attention back to the blonde. "I'm sure they'll be keeping me open," she rolled her eyes, chuckling slightly, "the sun's out year round....people need sunglasses." She quirked an eyebrow at his next statement, putting her hands on her hips and turning to fully face him, "And what do you have against the Nazi's? I surf."

He looked her over, mostly for his own curiosity. She wasn't wearing their 'colors. Or what passed for colors these days... their t-shirt, but that might simply be due to 'dress standards' the company had. His eyes held a grin even if his face as serious. He thought he'd chased the Nazi's off the pier and boardwalk but knew they'd be back. At least that's what he'd told Max after reopening the store.

"They give gangs a bad name.' he said simply 'you leave my boys alone, we'll leave you alone. Things only happen when people interfere. But those Nazi's... they actually think they 'own' the surf, bother people they ought not to. They're trouble when they don't have to be and don't have the first clue what they're doing.'

He circled the kiosk as he spoke his voice calm and steady and when he'd come around, now opposite the girl, he went on. "and of course you surf. Not much else to do around here except surf or ride. Let me know if you ever get tired of splashing in the water and want a real thrill."

"I only know a few of them because I spend so much time at the beach trying to practice," she shrugged lightly. "I don't really associate myself with that crowd, they kill too many brain cells with weed. I'm not going to sit around all day, surf, get high and wreak havoc at the boardwalk, that just isn't my kind of lifestyle," she watched as he walked around the kiosk, turning to meet him again when he reached the other side.

"You and your boys seem to cause quite a stir when you're here," she playfully grinned at him. "It seems like you get kicked off the boardwalk every night...then again the security guards here are so stupid. They're too busy trying to preserve the atmosphere for the tourists to worry about real problems. I seriously doubt you create any real threat other than being some 'punk kids' who are loitering," she laughed at herself.

"Sorry, I get bored here, and I see a lot of things. It's given me plenty of time to form my own opinions on things." At his offer, she couldn't help but smile a careful yet honest smile, "A real thrill, huh? I'll have to take you up on that some time when I'm not stuck here. I'm always up for a little fun."

David
Posted: Mar 14 2009, 06:46 PM

He laughed as she called him and his boys harmless punks. A shot to his pride, sure, but one he'd have to take, for now at least. Marching orders were simple... unless they posed a threat or took physical action against him and his boys, locals were to be left alone. Too much attention if too many went missing. He spread his hands and grinned.

"Half the fun's knowing who to harass and when to do it. Far more fun to maintain a state of unpredictability than to go charging around like a bloody fool, draws too much attention."

Maybe he'd been right in singling her out after all... if she was observant enough to have noticed that his boys made a ruckus but no real property damage...how long would it be until she noticed the faces his boys picked off the carousel usually ended up on those damn posters taped to the notice board three layers thick?

"You're observant, I like that. Means you've got a brain unlike most of the surfers around here. Maybe you are better suited to a bike than a board."

She looked him over once, trying to understand what the big deal was with him an his boys. Granted they didn't exactly look like the type of guys you brought home to Mom and Dad, but there was nothing out of the ordinary about them. People just judged other people way to easily.

"Life is more exciting when things are unpredictable. Why would you want to live life knowing exactly what's going to happen next? It takes away the living part of life. And trust me, I'm well aware that I don't fit the surfer stereotype, I don't let what I do define who I am." She picked up an out of place pair of sunglasses and put them back on the shelf where they belonged, another smile crossing her lips, "I've never been on a bike before, guess I'll just have to take your word for it."

David

"Think of it as surfing the land. Pretty much the same consequences if you fuck up even, only a lot more mess."

He couldn't linger much longer. He knew the boys wouldn't ride off without him, but the mortals they'd grabbed might cause trouble. And that fat security guard was eying him over with a look that said if the man had a gun, he'd use it.

"at least we know how to find each other if you ever want that ride.' he gave her a bright smile that showed off some rather sharp teeth and 'name's David. Think I ought to pull before that tub of lard over there has to put in any effort to chase me off." He laughed and waved over the girls shoulder to Big Ed.

"I'll be here, 4 nights a week until school starts...I usually get off at 11, so you'll definitely know where to find me. I'm assuming you'll be back tomorrow to irritate Big Ed?" She looked over to the security guard, flashing a smile at him, trying to get the man to lighten up a little. He was even an asshole to her and all she did was work there and mind her own business. The damn guy obviously had a problem with kids.

"I'm Cameron," she stuck out her hand offering a shake, returning his smile. "And I am definitely up for that ride..I want to see if it's as good as you say it is."

David

He took her hand with one of his own gloved and bent forward kissing it lightly for a moment, somehow keeping eye contact. Even as the tempting as biting her was he did not. He straightened and smirked.

"Of course I'll be here Cameron. Not too much else around here other than try to drive Ed crazy. Reinforce some of those preconceived notions of his. Small game, I know, hardly fair at four to one, but look at him... I'm pretty sure he's eaten a couple five year olds. I'll see you around then."

His throat itched with the thought of feeding and his smirk became a smile ans he turned and headed off to his bike. She was alright for a surfer. Someone who could either help or harm but absolutely not just part of the scenery. As Dwayne looked at him he gave a simple answer... "future prospects" and kicked his bike to life. '

----------

They stayed away from the carousel for a couple days, picking people off the beach itself for no other reason than David's worry over Cameron's spotting them night after night and how soon until she glanced at the notice board and made the connection. By giving the spinning platform a break he hoped to cool any already warm leads.

Too bad the day they went back to the ride, they found the Nazi's shoving people around trying to 'mark their turf' and let everyone know that it was their ride now. With a glance at Cam he rolled his eyes and nodded the boys to the ride. Looks like they'd finally get to cause a 'real' ruckus.

The went around and got on from the rear circling around in their normal way as the piano roll tinkled above them... Matilda, wont you go a waltzing with me He made a clear pass at Greg's girl, right in front of the man, leader of the Nazi's. More to show him who was really in charge here. After all Gregg was nothing but a human and very quickly wearing out his 'local protection.'

Both the Surf Nazi's with their day-glow painted "my beach my wave" shirts and the Lost Boys closed ranks. And then David felt himself pulled back, Big Ed's nightstick across his throat. This would not do at all.... Funny. Big Ed broke the one locals rule before Greg did. "alright boys... lets pull."

The next night The Lost boys were circling the carousel once again even as Big Ed was no where to be found.

Cameron felt her cheeks burn as he kissed her hand, knowing that they had turned a nice rosy pink. She let out another laugh at the '5 year old' comment, smiling as she turned to look at Big Ed again. "I think he has. I bet if you cut open his stomach you'd find a half a tire and a license plate too.'

"Don't drive the guy too crazy, I could see him being the kind of guy that wigs out and shoots up the place." she chuckled again. "It was nice meeting you," she gave him one last smile, watching him walk away in the direction his friends had gone, before returning to her work, taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly with a smile.

***

She had to admit that she was a bit bummed when they hadn't showed up at the boardwalk the next couple of days, thinking that it was something she had done during the conversation between she and David. But those worries subsided a dew days later when they decided to make their grand return, only to run into the 'Nazis' and cause trouble. When he rolled his eyes at her, she just shook her head in laughter, leaning back against the kiosk and watching the fight unravel...or at least start to unravel. It didn't take long for Big Ed to break it up and David and his boys to leave the carousel, taunting Greg and Ed on their way out.

She hadn't expected the guys to return the next night after what had happened the night before, but she wasn't exactly disappointed when she spotted them at their usual spot. She sat down on the stool they provided her, watching them, waiting for the moment when Big Ed would show up and force them out of there.

The Lost Boys hung around much longer than normal tonight. Tonight, they were letting Paul pick the prey and David was thinking. Paul was making a fine vampire and seemed to be enjoying his new gifts. They'd found him half dead on the beach and he'd come a long way over the following few weeks.

They started out near the pirate ship and made their way on down the boardwalk, kids ran back and forth and the they music played over the speaker system also managed to filter over from the beach on the breeze creating an eerie tunnel effect every few feet between speakers. Like everything else about this decade, he liked the effect. It was his kind of fun, especially since those not use to it appeared almost hypnotized.

As they passed the kiosk, once more he hung back.

"This is weird.' his voice even but slightly amused at the same time 'For once Big Ed's not following us. You don't think the Nazi's did something?"

Why the hell wouldn't he spin it to his advantage? He'd set up a decent beginning the other night and it would only do to keep up with the act. He and his boys had set up a track record. They hadd been kicked out of the park almost nightly for years and nothing had happened to the fat-fuck. He kicks the Nazi's off the Boardwalk and goes missing. Simple enough explanation right there.

Cameron hadn't really been paying attention to where the guys had went after they left the carousel, getting a bit busy at the kiosk. She never would understand why people bought sunglasses at night, but who was she to argue their choices?

When it finally slowed down, she caught sight of David's bleach blonde and the guys leather jackets, a slight smile crossing her lips as she did her best to look busy. Ignoring the whoops and and other noises the guys made as they walked by, she looked over to David and laughed. "You've got some pretty crazy friends."

Thinking about what David had suggested about Big Ed, she furrowed her brow, concern filling her face."Oh, I hope not! That would be terrible...I might not like the guy too much, but I hope he's okay." She looked around a bit, searching for any sign of Big Ed, "Come to think of it, I haven't seen him all night. Maybe we should tell someone?" After thinking about what she was saying for a moment, she laughed it off, realized she sounded ridiculous. "Eh, he's probably over at the corndog stand schmoozing the workers for free corndogs.'

"I haven't seen you and your guys for a couple of days...I thought I scared you away," she grinned at him, hopping off the stool and standing in front of him. "You know. me...big bad surfer girl..."

David
Posted: Mar 15 2009, 10:07 PM

"We've had other things to do and thought it might be better than to test our luck with 'Mr. Cant pass the police exam' and as for the boys... We're more like brothers than friends and I'm sure the security guards would be just pickled pink to see my face again..'

He raised a brow as she continued and looked mildly amused. This could be fun, maybe she'd turn, maybe they'd just scare her a bit...maybe the suspension bridge 'I didn't know Surfer-Chicks liked to get into trouble.' he glanced over the various makes of shades and picking out the most gaudy pair he could find tried them on with a bright grin before putting them back

"truth is, there's only so many times you can go around in circles before you get bored with it. The carousel goes slow and you get a nice old fogies song, The tilt-a-whirl'll spin yer head off, the pirate ships half a circle... that space-speeders is just a really fast carousel. eh... sometimes one must find other forms of amusement than just spinning yourself stupid. What do a say you meat us over on the other side of the arcade. The Boys and I know a place, just about to the light house and I'll show you a real ride..."

"That's pretty cool you guys are so close. I never really had that kind of relationship with anyone...except my brother and he's at college in Miami." She laughed as he put on a pair of sunglasses, "Those ones are pretty rad, but..." she turned to the display, grabbing another pair off the shelf and slipping them onto his face, "I think you need these ones. They're all the rage," she laughed again pulling herself out a pair, "We could even get matching ones...pink for me, blue for you."

She posed for a moment before taking them off and placing them back on the shelf, "And I've already told you. I'm not your typical surfer chick." She listened carefully to him speak, nodding occasionally. He had such an interesting perspective on life, so different than anyone she had ever met. It seemed like the more she talked to him, the more she wanted to know about it and the way he viewed things.

Glancing down at her watch, she thought for a moment, wandering if her Mom would care if she wasn't home right after work. "I think I can do that. It's almost closing time and my Mom's probably sleeping now anyways. Can you give me five minutes to lock up?

David
Posted: Mar 15 2009, 10:47 PM

He smiled to hide his surprise at her coming near enough to slip the glasses on him. People didn't normally get close enough to touch him unless they were about to become food. For a moment all he could sense was her and then she pulled back, something about matching sets. Maybe it was good he was about to scare the ever loving hell out of her cause he wasn't about to do matching anything.

"I don't know about taking things that far... I mean, we just met." then he laughed lightly trying to keep the air between them light he even kept them on as she asked for five minutes to lock up.

"Sure. Kinda feels weird not being run off and I promise, You've never ridden a wave like I'm about to show ya."

He gave her a light bow and headed off to the carousel to gather the boys. "Lets have some fun."

"I swear I was kidding. I suck with sarcasm...I probably sound like some creep now," she laughed again, straightening out the sunglasses on the shelf before closing the cupboard door and locking it. "I think I'll be the judge of that," she referred to his wave comment.

"I'll meet you at the arcade in 5," she gave him a brief wave before turning to finish closing. She did the same thing for the other 3 sides of the kiosk, pulling down the ugly green protective vinyl blinds, locking the cash register and sticking it in the cupboard underneath. She pushed the stool in, took a few steps back and looked over the kiosk before nodding in satisfaction.

Shoving the keys in her jean pocket, she started towards the arcade, getting that weird feeling in her stomach. Was she really about to go for a ride with a group of guys she barely knew? It screamed bad idea in her mind, and for a brief moment she stopped walking, glancing back to the kiosk. She rarely had second thoughts about things, so she tended to take them seriously when she had them. "Quit being a baby Cam, it's nothing...just a little adventure," she mumbled to herself as she turned back towards the arcade and continued walking.

Already seated on their bikes the boys looked up. Both Marko and Paul whooped while Dwayne kept his thoughts to himself. David gave her a bright almost warm smile. "Boys, this is Cameron. She's a Surfer but lets not hold it against her. Cameron, Thats Paul,' 'heya baby'

'The one in Denim's Marko.' who gave Cam a goofie grin

'and this one's Dwayne. We're not sure yet if he can talk or not.' Dwayne just stares

"Boys, Cameron here would like to go for a ride. Whada say we head up to the old bridge. Should make it there just in time.' he hold out a gloved hand to help her onto the bike. 'Unless you've changed your mind...."

He had an odd look in his eyes. As if he knew what was coming and this was just the initial test.

"don't worry girl, we wont bite ya." Paul Offered with a quick smirk to Marko and laugh.

She opened her mouth to protest his surfer comments, but closed it again as he started introducing her to the boys. She smiled at each of them, doing the best to remember their names and faces. "It's nice to meet you guys."

As he held out his hand she looked it for a moment before glancing up to meet David's gaze. There was no way she was pulling out of this now. She wasn't the kind of girl that went back on her word, and she was going to prove to them that she wasn't just some 'surfer girl.'

Looking between the boys, she let out a quiet sigh, unable to believe that was so about to do this.

"Changed my mind? Please. I want to see what's so great about riding a bike." Taking his hand, she pulled herself onto his bike, adjusting herself so that she fit perfectly behind him.

Engines roared their approval and he gave her a light smile. 'like surfing land' he called to her and then they were off. Relatively slow at first, until they were out of the crowds and they had room to run. It seemed to a game to them. How close they could come to each other without crashing, or how many times they could either cut across each others path or some car on the road.

They kept to the roads and avoided the beach, taking the more direct route to the bridge, but no less ride. Dwayne even managed to put a respectable dent in a random mailbox. What kept the boys from crashing into each other was their shared blood. Each simply knew what the other would do and where they were going to be.

When they hit the forest the reckless behavior only got worse instead of better. Now they had trees to weave and dodge and apparently use to jump out at each other. But as they grew near to the bridge Paul kept to jumping logs and Marko seemed less intent on unseating Dwayne. Gradually they slowed and finally stopped.

While the Boys dismounted and left their bikes David simply grinned back to her. "having fun yet?"

As the bikes roared to life, she couldn't help but tighten her grip on David ever so slightly. She honestly had no idea what she was in for and as much as she hated to admit it, it scared her. But going into the unknown, doing something you've never done is all a part of the adventure and a life without adventure was hardly worth living.

At first she felt herself tense up as they rode, even closing her eyes a few times as she was sure that they were going to wreck into each other and die. But as the ride went on, she seemed to get less tense, trusting David's ability to maneuver with each second that passed. It soon became obvious that this was a game they played with each other quite often, like they knew that the other one would pull back at the last second, which just made her feel more at ease. It shouldn't have, but being a surfer, she knew all about that game...even if it wasn't nearly as dangerous in the water. At some point during the ride she caught herself smiling as she watched Marco on Dwayne's tail, nipping his back tire every now and then.

When they finally came to a stop, she released her grip on David, sitting up straight on the bike, "Wow..." she breathed quietly. "That was...well...I guess it was pretty fun. You guys are ridiculous though! I can't tell you how many times I thought we were going to wreck. I hate to admit it, but this really might be cooler than surfing."

David
Posted: Mar 16 2009, 03:44 AM

The boys all grinned to one another, on the very edge of the tracks. Marko hopped up on the bridge's support beam and made his way out to the center with Dwayne close behind. Paul was last out as David got off his bike, once more holding out his hand. She was a trusting girl and had even had a little fun on the ride out.

"It's not over yet.' He said simply, not even bothering to turn around as Dwayne gave Marko a solid shove right over the side. 'Life is a game Cameron, It's all a matter of how you play it.' then Dwayne followed Marko off the edge with Paul giving a loud whoop. 'We don't have a lot of time up here. You can either spend your life ridding around in circles, or you can shoot the entire tube and ride it all the way back to shore."

He turned and followed them right over the edge. Like everything they did, this wasn't nearly as dangerous as you'd first think. Each one of the Lost Boys had grabbed a hold of the under side of the bridge. They're laughs and sheers and whoops echoing off the rock walls closer than you'd think in the dark. The bridge was only a hundred feet long. You could trust that on most nights the cavity below would fill with an assload of fog adding to the theatricality of the stunt.

Cameron had pegged the Lost Boys as looking more dangerous than they actually were. Her comment about the side only seemed to reinforce this idea she had. But this was no stunt. The drop below them was several hundred feet. The fog deadened the sounds of anything from below. Not a problem at all if you could fly. Cameron had trusted him and he had no intention of letting her die tonight. It was how'd she'd react tomorrow that would decide what happened next.

Right now, David was banking on her notion that like the Boys 'punk appearances and the ride here, that it only looked dangerous. It could very well be only two or three feet to the bottom.

Cameron took his hand, getting off the bike and straightening the wrinkles out of her shorts. Looking around for a moment, she tried to figure out where they were from the surroundings, but the fog that had overcome the night made it hard to see out very far.

Her mouth fell open in horror as Dwayne pushed Marko off the edge, and she looked to David for an answer, which was given to her in his lack of reaction. She felt her heart rate quicken as Dwayne jumped, followed by Paul, then finally David. She just stood there for a moment, unable to think, their laughs filling the night. "Guys, this isn't funny," she furrowed her brow, looking around the darkness, trying to hide the discomfort in her voice.

Even if they were just hanging there, there were so many unanswered questions she had...what if she slipped? Crouching down on the support beam, she managed to position herself so that her legs were wrapped around the beam and she was able to peer under the bridge to see them. "Okay, I'm all for new adventures, but this seems a little...over the top. I don't think I can hold myself up."

The sound of the quickly approaching train echoed in the distance and she realized that it was starting to reach to point that she didn't have a choice. Either she joined them in hanging or got clipped by the train. Closing her eyes for a moment, she collected herself, opening them back up and continuing to wrap her legs around the support. She was thanking god for having decent upper arm strength thanks to surfing as she flipped over the support grabbing the edge with her hands and unhooking her legs. Cautiously, she edged her way over towards the boys, her face full of fear and worry.

David's face was serious as she looked down at them. He even laughed at her fear. Then the coming train blew it's whistle and he watched her expression change as she realized there was only one way. As she dropped down to join them the vibrations turned to shaking turned to a violent, bone rattling bucking as if the bridge itself were trying to buck them off.

The Boys around him cheered and whooped even louder clearly enjoying what was going on and David called over the ear numbing clatter above as the train's piston powered wheels slid back and forth, scrapping the track and the wood beams struggled against their nails and steel brackets. "It's OK... We do this all the time!"

Then one of the boys let go and dropped into fog. He couldn't tell which of them... He was facing Cameron but the loss of that Boys weight was enough to make the bar they where clinging to rattle all the harder. This was how he taught his boys how to fly... their first time just worked better if it was a gut reaction. He kept his eyes on her's. His first bit of hypnotism was to make things go a bit funny, or odd. Sensations were suddenly off or just didn't seem to match was was going on..

Then he grinned wide and dropped into the fog below. Gaining enough distance between himself and where she'd drop to that she'd feel the fall before he'd catch her. He made sure he was still high enough to recover from her added weight before encouraging her to drop. He called up to her as the train passed, whispering the name as if it were the very fog that was calling her.

As the bridge began to shake, she tightened her grip on the bar, her knuckles turning white as she looked at David, fear filling her eyes. "All the time? I think you guys have pretty fucked up idea of fun," she somehow managed to chuckle as she readjusted her grip every so often to keep from falling. She gasped as Dwayne let go, watching him disappear into the fog, once again looking back at David for some sort of answer. As their eyes met for a moment, she felt her stomach rise up into her throat, and she quickly looked away, closing her eyes to avoid vomiting on him.

When she opened them back up, she had to blink a few times to refocus, furrowing her brow as she looked at him. She opened her mouth to talk, but was unable to get the words out before he smiled at her and let go. She watched him disappear into the fog along with the other two boys who had let go, closing her eyes again as she got disoriented from looking down at him, like she was drunk.

She held on tightly until the train had finally passed and she was once again left alone in the quiet darkness. The sound of her name being called from below sent chills up her spine as she looked around, her grip slipping from the sweat on her palms. Closing her eyes for a third time, she attempted to tighten her grip, finally realizing that for the second time that evening there was no way out. Silently praying, and squeezing her eyes tightly close, she released her grip on the bar, falling into the darkness.

As she fell, all sorts of strange feelings overcame her as she looked around. It was like she was just floating there among the fog, she had no idea how long she had been falling, or if she even was really even falling at all. Maybe it was all an illusion...a dream...had she drank? It sure as hell felt like she had been drunk.

He dropped some twenty maybe thirty feet as she dropped into his arms. "There is no life, no living if you live in fear. Never be afraid. Not of dying, not of injury, nothing."

He waited long enough for her to either fall asleep or succumb to the physical strains of unfettered flight and passed out. Humans weren't meant to be airborne. From experience he knew that it wreaked havoc on the equilibrium to be 'floating' like this. Even if she was a surfer, gravity still had a pull even in the water. He was more dead than living and didn't have an equilibrium to get mucked up anymore. The bone rattling of moments ago had been nothing but a dim strain on his system. He literally couldn't feel the rides they had on the boardwalk.

It took the power of a train racing above his head to get him to feel much of anything and even that thrill was starting to bore him, to fade as he grew older. He wasn't getting the rush his boys got anymore. He was growing too old for it, the vampire blood in him too good at keeping him 'together'. He realized with a start that he was nearly a hundred.

He carried her home, knowing that she would not know what happened to her for certain. Safely fettered by the bonds of gravity once more. Maybe she'd think it was all a dream. If she didn't believe the safer route... if she didn't fall for his little hypnotic ruse, then maybe he'd turn her. But for now.. time to go get his bike and head back to the Hotel.

THREAD TWO; Making Sense

Cameron Foster
Posted: Mar 17 2009, 07:56 PM

Cameron woke up the next day, groaning as she rolled over and read the clock. 5:00. Realizing that was in fact 5pm rather than 5am, she furrowed her brow, trying to make sense of the previous night. What in the world had she done? And why had she slept the entire day? Crawling out of bed and stood up and walked over to her mirror, letting out a sound that can only be described as disgust as she looked at herself. "Wow...rough night," she mumbled to herself, once again trying to remember her evening. Well...she remembered it...for the most part...but it didn't really make much sense. There was no possible way that she hung off that bridge then dropped down...and David...caught her? In the air? She had to have been on something...people would think she was crazy if she told them that happened which can only mean that it didn't happen.

Realizing that she wanted (and needed) answers, she took a shower, changing into jean shorts and a t-shirt, pulling her hair into a ponytail and sliding on a pair of flip-flops. She was banking on running in to David and the boys tonight, but she knew that they didn't go to the boardwalk till night time. Waiting until the sun went down, she grabbed a hooded sweatshirt, pulling it on as she walked out the door, heading towards the boardwalk.

When she arrived at the boardwalk, she could feel her stomach flutter with nerves as she looked for any sign of them. David was probably going to laugh at her and tell her she was crazy, but she could have sworn it happened...even if it didn't make much sense. Reaching the carousel, she flashed her season riding pass, stepping on it and taking a seat on a white and blue horse, looking for David and his boys with each rotation.

The sound of their boots clicked lightly, partially hidden by the sound of the piano roll. Dwayne was leading the pack tonight and caught David's eye with a slight nod toward a white and blue painted horse. Sure David was curious but could knew how to play the game. He smiled lightly and gave her a polite nod even if his eyes held a look like he knew, he was acting as if last night hadn't happened at all.

Letting her choose to make the move, if she was planning on it at all. He patted Dwayne on the shoulder and smirked, then looked back to Paul and Marko. "What do ya say boys?"

"Not the same without that rent-a-cop to mess with."
"Yeah,' Marko 'Wonder if they fired his fat ass."

When the boys had passed her, barely acknowledging her, she felt her temper flare up for a moment. Seriously? The look David gave her said something, yet they continued on their way, heckling people on the carousel. Scoffing, she climbed off the horse, turning and shooting the employee who told her to stay on the horse while it was in motion a death glare.

She weaved in and out of people, apologizing for bumping into them until she reached the pack of boys, laughing about Big Ed's lack of presence. Walking up past the group, she turned to face David, putting her hands on her hips, careful to keep her balance while they continued to move in a circle.

"Listen. We need to talk. What the fuck happened last night? And don't lie to me. I'm 99% sure that I know what happened, but there's that 1% in the back of my mind that's telling me that I'm crazy, because things like that can't happen."

David
Posted: Mar 17 2009, 11:05 PM

His voice and expression suddenly serious as Cameron came right up to them, demanding answers. "What happened last night Cameron? Did you have a bad dream?"

Marko snickered and he and Paul went off, continuing the search for tonight's prey. Dwayne stayed close, just starring at Cameron sizing her up. Finally the Half-Indian spoke "she's not Lost." before turning away to join the others.

David gave a slow nod as Dwayne walked past him. "He means your not one of us, and can't become one either.' he said at her expression. 'See to be one of us, you've go to have nothing and no one. No fear either. Go back to your surf board and sunglasses kiosk Cameron. You'll be happier not knowing if it was real or not. Would you be happy if I told you it had been real? Or would it only scare you to know that not only did it happen, you survived to live again?'

He smirked suddenly as he walked forward, back the way he'd come to catch up with his boys, He looked over his shoulder to her "Oh... be careful if you decide to try it again... I may not always be there catch you."

She just look at David 's retreating form for a moment, not accepting his answer. She hurried up to him again, looking at him, her expression full of confusion, her tone less abrasive. "No...I won't be happier not knowing. I want to know if it was real. I mean, it had to be. I just...haven't figured out how it happened, and I'm not going to run away from something just because I don't understand it. I'm not scared. You said it last night...you can't spend your life going round and round...sometimes you have to go off the path.'

"And trust me, I'm not planning on going and jumping off a bridge any time soon..."

David
Posted: Mar 17 2009, 11:42 PM

For the first time there was no hint of smirk as she followed him. He turned on her, his thick coat flaring out slightly with the move. Very well then, he decided on the spot. His half cocked grin held no humor and his eyes were as cold as the sea. The tone of annoyance wasn't entirely directed at her. Max was tugging on his leash again. Time to check in apparently.

"Ooh but you did jump off a bridge Cameron, right along with us and you flew home even, riding the back of the wind. Dwayne's not been wrong before. You've got a life Cameron, a home, a job, a career. Go live it before I change my mind.."

She stared at him for a moment, tears starting to form in her eyes. She didn't even understand what he was talking about any more, but she didn't care. She could take a hint and it was more than obvious that they didn't want her around. They weren't any better than the 'Nazi's' that he hated so much. At least they wouldn't do something like this.

She opened her mouth to say something, but stopped herself, snapping it shut, turning on her heel and walking away. After a few steps she stopped and turned over he shoulder, "I'm fine with pretending that none of this ever happened, because frankly I don't need this bullshit in my life anyways. But I just want to remind you that you're the one who talked to me." She turned back to face the direction she was walking, shaking her head in disgust and ignoring the stares from the people around her.

David
Posted: Mar 18 2009, 03:56 PM

He stopped walking even as he continued to spin slowly around. wont you come a waltzing Matilda with me. Without looking back to her "I know I did and I like you Cameron. Which is exactly why you don't want to have anything to do with me. See, I'm not exactly the kind of guy you can bring home to mum. So what about last night makes you want to repeat it? So I showed you a fun ride then scared you half to hell?

He began to laugh. a cold humorless one "That 's not even the scary part."

He stepped off the carousel and looked at her as she turned away from him. "But hey, it's a free world. You wanna come with us go right ahead, I'm not gonna stop you. Just make damn sure it's what you want to do cause once you join us, there is no going back. Who knows, if it's what you want to do... maybe you'll prove Dwayne wrong?"

She stopped, debating on pretending she hadn't heard him, but turned to face him once again. If she didn't settle this, it was going to bother until it settled itself and it was something she didn't see settling for a while. "Look, I don't know what was so fun about last night, or really if it was fun at all. I have a lot of digesting to do, and yea, maybe it was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me, but I'm not going to let that change anything. There are some things in life that are supposed to be shades of gray and I accept that. Granted it might take some figuring out...which if I had it figured out I wouldn't have come here to talk to you. But obviously that wasn't the right choice."

An amused laugh escaped her lips as he once again spoke about 'them' like it was some elite club or something, "Join you? Why are you acting like you guys are a part of secret society. You act like you killed someone or something and if I found out, you'd have to kill me."

David
Posted: Mar 18 2009, 10:46 PM

He watched her circled way from him and glanced around "shades of gray eh?' walking along side the carousel to keep her in view 'I wouldn't say I was gray at all. Morality really has nothing to do with it at all. Even if you hide the meaning with colors, it's still what your talking about. Right and Wrong. Eh fuck it. As for killing people... if someone is looking to kill you, and you kill them first, is that wrong? See I don't believe in right and wrong Cameron. I'll do what I have to do and so will my boys.'

His eyes went dark as he spoke, behind that empty blue was a dim hint of pain "Getting beat half to hell just once aint so bad as getting smacked every night for no other reason than your alive. Little things like that add up. So what if I did what I had to do. I did whats right by me. You take a good long look Cameron, am I really whats right by you? And this is the last time I'm going to ask.'

"Yes, I'm the one who started talking to you. If you want we can keep things as they are and no harm done. You went pretty far last night I'll admit. Today you actually got Dwayne to talk. Not to bad for a Surfer Chick but you haven't been through what the Boys and I have. I've heard people around here call us The Lost Boys like some fucked up disney movie, but ya know what... It actually kind of fits. We're the ones no one wants to deal with.

"I'm just another kick-your-ass punk in leather that the letterman jacket wearing jocks talked about behind my back but had no courage to look me in the eye. So, needless to say, a lot of people make it point to keep their distance from me. So I decided I wasn't available for the whole 'friend' thing because nobody had the guts to keep up with me. The Boys aren't so much friends as they are followers. I build loyalties. You know what? They're more loyal and trust-worthy than any friend can be. "

She finally stepped off the carousel, taking a moment for her equilibrium to set itself straight before turning to face him. "Honestly? No. I don't think that you're 'right by me,' but like I've already said, I don't believe in stereotypes. I also believe that you should give everyone a chance, it may be stupid, but I'm not going to just throw someone away until they show me that they're not worth my time."

Listening to him talk, she couldn't help but attempt to read deeper into what he was saying. These guys...there was something different about them...from everything had had been saying to her, she was sure of it. Even the way David spoke about his 'boys' made her believe that there was more that meets the eye, and her curiosity was pulling at her to find out more.

"So you don't do the friend thing, so what...it happens...we've all been hurt by people we believe are our friends. I get that. And I honestly see where you're coming from. with your boys. I see how people react to you, I'm here day in and day out, watching everything that goes on here. Hell, just from the time I've spent with you, people are acting different towards me. But you and your boys have that bond, and even though I've only been around for a few days, I can tell that it's stronger than any friendship I've ever seen.. So yea, maybe we can keep things as they are...I would like that, even if I'll never have that bond that you and you're boys have. It's not about that for me..."

David
Posted: Mar 19 2009, 12:04 AM

He frowned as she spoke and as he was about to a very silly question, felt Max tug on his leash again. This time David actually looked over his shoulder with a look of high annoyance and send a silent message to his so-called father that he'd be there soon enough. "Look, there's someplace I have to be tonight. I don't mean to be short but I don't have a lot of time.' he was distracted and not paying attention We're not so much as a secret society as we are ..' he blinked several times and gave a shy smile. He'd almost said mafia-start up. 'I'll see ya around ok?"

"No, it's cool. I understand," she waved a hand, "I'll see you around." She gave him a smile, silently cursing because he had left her hanging. Turning their separate ways, she headed back towards her house, thinking alot about their conversation. There was something different. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but she'd figure it out. She wasn't as stupid as she looked, and normal people didn't do the things that David and his boys did.

She'd just have to pay more attention to things for the next couple of weeks. Hang out with them a little bit, get closer to them. She wasn't going to be happy until she figured it out.

Dees
Posted: Apr 6 2009, 07:09 PM

Dees circled the windsock farm for the fourth time, every pass he made seemed to rip a layer off his already thin patience. He felt a pang in his gut and knew he'd be in trouble if he didn't touch the ground and feed soon. True, he'd spend more time in the air in the past ten years than he had in the entirety of his adult life before. His plane had become his home since that night and he'd only touch down when he had to. Continuing to hunt after the vampire who had done this to him. Not out of anger, but a need to know. He was a reporter for fucks sake and a good one. But he also wasn't stupid. And after Jimmy pulled that stunt and stole his bi-line....

He picked up the mic from it's dashboard hook, held it about an inch and half from his mouth and depressed the button. "Santa Carla, this is N471B, requesting update on ground conditions and you might want to know, if I have to circle your runway much longer you're gonna to have to get the fire department involved."

"N471B , not much longer. We've just about cleaned up the mess down here. Should have you coming in in the next 40."

"Call me curious but what the hell went on down there?"

"Cops picking up a body. Looks like a security guard from the boardwalk drank himself to death just to spite you N471B."

Dees held the plane drop what his altimeter told him was almost nine feet. This could be it. Had he finally caught up to his sire after ten years? He wanted to scream at the Ground Control his next question but when he spoke with was his calm, almost bored voice and practiced interviewing skills refined to a point as sharp as his fangs. Besides, Dwight always left a bogus flight plan and took off the night of his killings.

"Santa Carla, you seen a white skymaster 337 with red piping the last 48 hours, tail number N101BL?"

"No Sir, haven't seen it. Friend of yours?"

"You can say that. We're got this cross country game of tag going."

"Sounds fun. Alright N471B; fly heading 160 descend to 3000 we'll get ya onto the ground in just a few."

"Heading 160, leaving 6 for 3000.' what the hell, it was worth a shot. 'You got a dirt runway by chance?"

"Sure, if you prefer it I can set ya down now but I got to warn you, kids use it for a drag strip."

Hmm... Since this Maryland and this cross country chase began he'd developed a love affair with the often times buttery smooth landings dirt runways gave, but with bikes and hot-rods ripping the dirt up?

"I'll take it." as long as it got him out of the air...

THIRD THREAD - Words Words Words

David
Posted: Mar 19 2009, 12:52 AM

When he left Cameron he nodded, able to sense the annoyance in her and headed his own way. Into the alley behind the video store and he slipped in it's back room after making sure no one was looking. This time he was intent on telling Max he and the boys would be leaving this sand trap of a city. A hundred years was to long to stay in one place.

It didn't go so well and over the next couple nights David had a lot to think about. For instance there were things about being a vampire that bastard hadn't told him. Even as Max insisted on treating him like a child he'd have to put up with it. He couldn't fight his maker. But the much older vampire had underestimated the blond and his own patience. He could wait. One day, he would be free of his master.

The next time he ventured out of the Hotel and in the pier he was much paler as he'd sent the Boys on to hunt with out him. His hunger gnawed at him but by now he as able to hide it pretty well. Tonight was another concert and he fed in the crowd of headbangers in the mosh pit knowing that the kid would stagger to the side and when he dropped it would be blamed on the 'evil of mosh pits' and not the 'evils of vampirism'.

He was walking the few hundred feet back to the wooden stairs when he noticed she was with the boys. Part of them wondered what they've told her about where he'd disappeared to.

The sunglasses hut always closed early on concert nights, seeing as practically every potential customer was at the concert. Unfortunately she still had to stay for the concert, because she was still getting paid to be working. It wasn't that bad of a deal, except for when the music was completely unbearable. Tonight it wasn't too bad, something she' actually listen to.

She had been standing towards the back, leaning against a pole with her arms crossed over her chest, when they had snuck up behind her and scared her. She let out a slight scream, whipping around, ready to throw a punch when she realized that it was only the boys. Dropping her hand, she groaned, crossing her arms back over her chest, "That wasn't funny! You guys are assholes!"

Realizing David was missing, she furrowed her brow for a moment, "Where's David?" She looked around briefly, expecting him to come up behind her and scare her as well.

David

Dwayne simply stared at her for a few moments before glancing to Marko who said "guess he aint up for games lately. We thought it was something to do with you."

----

"It wasn't.' he said as he climbed the stairs out of the sand. He wasn't allowed to tell the boys about Max and that was making this difficult when he and his sire disagreed. 'Just a mood.' but Dwayne clearly wasn't satisfied. The first he David had turned and the one who normally called him on his shit. They had also brotherly trust in each other. 'You see the notice board? Seems the Nazi's did do something to Ed after all. We gatta talk Dwayne."

With a nod he and Dwayne walked to the side and in a very low voice and those blue eyes serious... "I can't say much, but even I answer to someone." He trusted the sound of the band and the crowd to help hide his words from the others. He was still paler than normal.

Cameron looked between Dwayne and Marko waiting for an answer, shrugging when they mentioned thinking it had to do with her. "Nope, I haven't seen him a few days." The mystery was solved a few moments later when David climbed the steps beside them, mentioning the notice board. "Yea...I was thinking that you were right. I hadn't seen him in days. Poor bastard. Hope he's okay."

As David pulled Dwayne aside, she looked back to the other two, trying her hardest to resist an attempt at eavesdropping, "So...is Dwayne always like this? Or does he hate me? Because I'm pretty sure that he hates me."

David

"He's just careful. Give him time and he'll warm up to ya." - Paul
"He's part Indian and apparently his folks were some the government continued to harass during the sixties and seventies." - Marko
"haha, Dwayne's the last Wild Indian then?"- Paul
"David's the only white guy he likes. You know that camp ground up the road about an hour or so? Apparently that's his folks lived with a few others and the government called em radicals and ran em off or jailed em. His folks tried to fight it and once an Indian even touches a gun they aint walking away. But hey, I didn't tell either of ya this ok?" - Marko
Paul whistled as Marko finished and the David and Dwayne returned.

"Hey Cameron? you got any idea where the Nazis hang out? Since they took away our toy rent-a-cop, I'm thinking we go take something of theirs." David said with a light grin.

Dwayne's dark eyes were fixed on the side of David's head, you could tell the kid was thinking but as always his expression was unreadable.

"Yea, Marko...telling Dwayne that is the first thing on my to-do list," she laughed, turning her attention to David and Dwayne as they returned.

"Um...usually they're near the beach. There's a little cove down about a half mile, there's a bunch of rocks and stuff, the surf's pretty decent there too. They spend a lot of time there, if not there, then probably at Barney's, the little burger joint just off the beach." She lowered her eyes slightly, not sure how serious he was about this, "You're not really going to go take something are you?"

David
Posted: Mar 22 2009, 09:43 PM

David almost laughed as Cam filled him in. Of course. Any gang of surfers would take the cove if they were serious about their sport. At least that was the place to be back in the sixties during the Surfer Craze. His expression was amused and his blue eyes glittered dangerously.

"Well they came onto our boardwalk and took something of ours. It's only fair we take something of theirs. But it really depends on /what/ they've got. If nothing else, those boards of theirs ought to make a nice bonfire during the next concert. Whatda ya say Cameron? Want to come along with us?"

"Whats gotten into ya David?" - Marko

"Ed's rent-a-goon buddies thats all. They know he's always chasing us off and wanted to know if I was the one who chased him off this time. heh You should see the file they got on us. It's about as thick as the dictionary.."

He didn't like lying to the Boys but he wasn't to keen on disobeying Max again either. For a man who admittedly never thrown a punch, he packed a hell of a wallop. Burning the boards would also be a good message to Greg and his gang to keep off the Boys turf.

She thought about it for a moment, wincing at the thought of her own board being burned. Boy, would she be pissed off if that happened to her..she could only imagine how angry the Nazis would be.

"Sure I'll come. Think they'll be there? I wouldn't mind exchanging words or punches with Greg's girl...what ever the hell her name is. One time, she actually thought that I was coming on to Greg. Honestly...does she really think that I'd actually go near that? Ew. I hate that bitch almost as much as I hate Greg."

She furrowed her brow at the mention of the trouble he was having with the Boardwark security, "I could talk to them if you want? I'm sure I could sweet talk them...or just tell them the truth, like you had nothing to do with it."

He paused for a minute as she offered to talk to the less than professional security they had around here. If he had been the age he looked he'd have been dead in the water. His lie exposed for the world to see. But he wasn't the age he looked and fast talking his way out of would be dead ends was a natrual to him as feeding. So he smirked

"Thats just asking for trouble. You said yourself people around here are already acting different since they've seen you with us. You sure you want the security in on the game as well? We're the bad boys after all. Worse even cause we ride stripped down chopped up monsters of motorcycles instead of waves. According to that drugged out old hippy preacher up on the Pier, ' his voice imitated that of the man's 'we're Satan's own sons!' before he broke out into a grin and the boys laughed.

Now that he'd thought about the old man, it was almost if the fool had had one to many run in's with Max. He had an almost serious look on him as he said "You can try if ya want but don't expect them to offer ya any donuts ever again."

He nodded toward the bike again parked out side of the arcade and "Lets go raise some hell boys."
