Max Brady was laying in his hospital bed, his head was wrapped in gauze, and his arm was in a sling. Both of his legs were broken severely.

"Max may never be able to race again," Lexie said to his family. "It's going to be a long and painful recovery. I'm recommending he be sent to Westland for physical therapy to help regain the use of his legs."

"How long?" Frankie Brady asked.

"A few months, possibly a year," Lexie replied. "He was very close to being completely paralyzed. He was very lucky. I'll make the arrangements for him to be transferred as soon as possible."
