"I wanted to stay in Oakdale," Luke told him. "My baby brother was just born, and my little sisters needed me. But with the whole school turning against me... my parents decided to talk to the principal about early graduation and sent me here to start over. The last thing I wanted was to run away. I feel like a coward." |

"You're not a coward. You've even got a stab wound to prove it," Matt forced a smile. "How many people can say they got stabbed saving other people's lives?" |

"Not many, I guess," Luke sighed. "I just wish I could make one friend in this town that doesn't compare me to this Lucas guy." |

"I won't," Matt told him, "Lucas was... unique. You're a different person. It's as simple as that. Besides, everybody in my life hates me right now, so I figure it could be good to branch out." |

"Why? What did you do?" Luke asked as he looked up at Matt. "You seem like a nice enough guy." |

Matt sighed. He didn't really feel like explaining everything. "I.. just.. made a few bad decisions. Some almost illegal bad decisions... and then I sort of had a breakdown. Spent a few days in a mental hospital.. yeah, my life's been a fairytale lately." |

"Wow," Luke told him. "Sounds like you've a rough time lately. I guess you really wouldn't want to hang around with a loser who runs away from his problems." |

"Actually, hanging around with anybody is a step up," Matt said with a laugh. "I have to move back in with my brother, cousin, and friend, which isn't too horrible, but definitely isn't paradise." |

"You know, I've been looking for a dormmate," Luke told him. "You go to Westland, right? You could always move in with me." |

"Seriously?" Matt smiled. "I mean, you wouldn't mind living with another gay guy? I know it might be kind of awkward." |

"I don't see anything wrong with it," Luke told him. "I mean, it's just two guys sharing a living space. It's not like we're going to be seeing each other naked or anything." |

"Hey, as long as you're comfortable, I'm in. Living with Dillon and a screaming infant wasn't exactly my idea of fun," Matt told him. |

"You can move in as soon as you want," Luke told him. "Of course, I'll probably be here for a few days until I can walk under my own power again." |

"Yeah, well, Patrick will be extra nice to you," Matt told him, "He used to be a real homophobe, but he's grown up a little about it. And he's a great doctor. As far as Meena goes... good luck." |

"Meena doesn't seem so bad," Luke told her. "She's actually a pretty nice person." |

Matt frowned. "How much medication are you on?" |

"Just the painkillers," Luke told him. "Meena and I talked while coming back here. She's not so bad, Matt. She just wants to be loved, like anyone else." |
|

"She's got an awfully twisted way of doing it," Matt started. "Any woman who would break up two people in love should just go to hell." |

"Oh, come on," Luke said. "What if two people weren't meant to be together? What if there was someone else meant for you? Kind of like the person you're with now is just a rest stop on the highway of love?" |
|

"In general, I'd agree. In Meena's case... she needs to move on, plain and simple," Matt said. "Patrick doesn't love her. Baby or no baby, it won't change anything." |

"That's up to Patrick to decide if he ultimately loves her or not," Luke told him. "If it's meant to be, then it'll happen. There's no stopping true love once it happens." |

"You're delirious," Matt grinned, checking Luke's forehead to see if he was running a temperature. "Just watch out for Meena. She'll eat you alive." |

"Are you seeing anyone right now?" Luke asked as he looked at Matt. "Not that I'm interested in you or anything, but... how do you the person you're with right now is the person you want to spend your entire life with?" |

"Sometimes you can just close your eyes and see yourself doing the most monotonous things with someone, like grocery shopping or cleaning the kitchen together. I think that's it." |

"I wish I could have that," Luke told him with a sigh. "To have someone just to... be there. Not just to do things with, but just to stare at them when you're together. Study every facial feature, and notice the color of their eyes." |
