"Stop!" Emma screamed, hearing the words from Steven, but picturing his stepfather sitting in front of her, calling her name and telling her how he wanted to be with her. "Just get away from me!" |

"Emma," Steven said as he looked at her. "What's going on? This is more than just what's going on with Andy, isn't it?" |

"I'm not talking about it anymore. It's been a long day; I'm going to bed," Emma started, heading for her bedroom. |

"Emma, please," Steven pleaded. "If there's something wrong, I want to help you. Don't shut me out, please." |

"I just want to be alone, okay? Thanks for the help with Aaron," she said, taking one last look at him before closing and locking her bedroom door. |

Steven sighed as he sat back on the couch and ran his hand through his hair. He knew something was wrong, he just didn't know what. In the meantime, he'd have to find a way to keep Andy safe. |

Emma threw herself on her bed and let the tears roll down her face. She liked Steven, but seeing Aaron reminded her of how people can be brutal towards one another. She couldn't risk getting hurt by another man. She'd have to let Steven down easily. |

Steven called the hospital and told them to watch out for Aaron, and to not let anyone in that wasn't on a list he was going to submit with Andy's closest friends and his sister on it. He walked back into his bedroom and closed the door, climbing under the covers. He really liked Emma, but was upset that she kept pushing him away. He wondered why she wouldn't allow him to get closer. |

Eventually Emma fell asleep. She didn't dream, which was a blessing since she couldn't have nightmares. |

Steven slept all night long, dreaming about Emma. He really liked her, and hoped she'd trust him enough to open up to him someday. |

Emma got up in the morning and looked at the clock. It was early, but she couldn't sleep anymore. She crawled out of bed and put on workout clothes. Sneaking through the living room so she didn't wake Steven, she left the apartment building and went on a jog to clear her head. |

Aaron had gotten ahold of Emma's cell phone number and sat in a diner. As the waitress passed, he looked up at her. "How would you like to make an extra large tip today?" A few minutes later, the waitress dialed Emma's number. |

Emma was jogging when she felt her cell phone vibrating in her pocket. She stopped and caught her breath, then answered the phone. "Hello?" |

"Yes, I'm trying to find Andy Barclay," The woman told her. "I'm calling in regards to some past due payments on his truck and haven't been able to reach him." |

"Oh," Emma started, leaning against the wall of a restaurant nearby, "Well, I'm taking care of Andy's financial obligations for the time being. Can you just forward the bills to me?" |

"I really need to speak with Mr. Barclay," The waitress told her. "Is there a number where I can reach him at to discuss the matter?" |

"Actually, no," Emma told her honestly, "But I'll get him a message for you." |

"Just let him know he's dangerously behind on his payments," The waitress told her. "We will have to repossess his truck after the new year unless we receive a payment soon." |

"I will take care of it as soon as I can," Emma reassured the woman on the phone, feeling a little nervous when she had used the word dangerously. She hung up and continued her run, eventually making it home to find a panicked Steven on the couch staring at her. |

"She wouldn't tell me where he was," The waitress told him. Aaron handed her a hundred dollars. "That's alright, I think you probably scared her enough to send her running toward his hiding place. I'll just wait and follow her to him." Aaron whistled to himself as he headed out. "What's wrong?" Steven asked as he looked up at her. |

"Nothing more than a stupid bill collector calling about Andy," Emma commented, not wanting to relive the previous night with Steven. She waltzed into the kitchen and poured a glass of orange juice. |

"Bill collectors calling on Christmas? How low can you get?" Steven asked as he stood up and followed her to the kitchen. "You know, if Andy needs help on his bills, I can help him out." |

"As a teacher? I can't ask you to do that," Emma told him as she continued to pace the kitchen, pretending to do chores. She couldn't stop and focus on his face, not after the scene she made last night. "I'll figure out his bills. Andy has some money in savings from the strip club. I can just use that." |

"Isn't all that money going towards his rehab?" Steven asked as he tried to make eye contact. "I want to help you and Andy. I care about you both, Emma. Andy's a good guy who doesn't deserve this shit." |

"So what? I let you help financially and then I'm in debt to you? You'll come back looking to collect when I least expect it, and I'll have to put out?" Emma asked defensively, "Men don't offer to help unless they get something out of it." |
