I blushed when she said that. Hopefully we could go on being friends like this. Real friends were hard to make in this town. "So, how did you get into nursing?" I asked her as we took a seat. |

I sat down across from Spinelli at our table and reached for my drink. I decided to tell him the short version of why I decided to become a nurse because if I told the long version, we would be here for a while. "My dad went to the hospital for a routine procedure, but the doctor that operated on him made a careless mistake and my father died on the operating table. I decided to go into medicine to prevent that from happening to another family." I picked up my Coca-Cola and took a sip of it. My dad was still a tender subject for me, but talking about what happened was starting to get a little easier now. |

"The Jackal offers his most sincere condolences over your loss," I told her. "You seem like a great person to want to be able to help people like that." |

"I honestly don't think that I would be where I am at right now if my dad hadn't died." I told him with a shrug. I wanted to be a lawyer when I was a little girl, but the second that my dad died, my interest to go into medicine was overwhelming. Hopefully I made the right decision. "Hopefully I can make a difference doing this." |

"I'm sure you'll make the most of your chosen profession," I told her with a smile. "You want to help people, that's a very admirable thing." That's part of the reason I also chose to pursue medicine, only in my case, my father chose to abandon me. |

"Thanks; I really appreciate you saying that." I replied with a smile. It meant the world to me to have someone supporting my decision to become a nurse. My mother flipped when she found out that I planned on working in a hospital for the rest of my life. She already disowned Jolene when she decided to go into medicine and she did the same with me. "So, what made you decide to become a doctor?" |

"Well, I was sick a lot as a child," I told her. "And my dad didn't really do much to help. In fact... he kind of made things worse. After he left me alone when I was 12, my Grammie took me in and started nursing me back to health, to the man you see before you. She said that I should be a doctor so I could help sicks kids like I was." I didn't mention the beatings that my dad gave to me on a regular basis. I didn't think she needed to know about everything. |

"I think that you are going to be a great doctor." I told him with a small smile. Spinelli was kind, caring and very compassionate; all of those things were the elements of a good doctor. Once Spinelli got done with his internship, he wouldn't have to run anything by anyone and he could have total freedom. "And being a doctor is going to be an excellent way to give back to the medical field for taking care of you when you were sick." Spinelli and I had outside circumstances that pushed us into medicine. Perhaps it was fate that we were thrown together like this. |

"Yeah, it is," I told her. If my Grammie hadn't pushed me toward medicine, I'd probably be some stoner computer hacker or something right now. "That's why I'm going to be head of pediatrics one day. I'm going to heal all of the sick kids that come in here." |

"That sounds really nice." I smiled warmly then took a bite of my sandwich. I could definitely see Spinelli was head of pediatrics. He would be great with the children. He would figure out what was wrong with them, treat them and just be nice to them. He definitely wouldn't be one of those cold, unattached doctors that I had gone to when I was a child. "You'd be really great with kids. In fact, I really hope you have kids in your future because a good guy like you would make a wonderful dad." |

My cheeks turned red when she said that. "Truth be told, children aren't exactly something the Jackal is planning on. I'd love to be a father, but the opposite sex isn't too fond of the Jackal or his oddities." |

"Whoever doesn't think that you are charming is a fool." I told him with a nod. Spinelli was a really great guy. Yes, he talked a little differently, but that was perfectly okay. He wasn't a user, a cheater, a control freak, disrespectful or anything like that. No, he was kind, caring, sweet and fun to be around. "You'll find the right woman, so don't give up on having a family." |

"Thanks," I told her. She was being pretty decent towards the Jackal, just like the Blonde One was. She'd probably reject me in the same fashion as well if I tried to ask her out. |

"Don't mention it," I replied with a smile. I took another bite of my turkey sandwich and then took another sip of my Coca-Cola. I really liked that I felt this comfortable talking to Spinelli. I never was able to share things so easily before with anybody. "I can totally see you as one of those dad's that spoils his kids." |

I smiled and took another sip of my Coca-Cola. I just knew that he would be an excellent father. Hopefully Spinelli listened to me and didn't give up on love. He deserved to be happy; he really did. Some people are destined to be a parent and he is one of those people. "Well, you future child, or children, will be extremely lucky. Until then, you can get practice spoiling the kids here at the hospital." |

"And this will be the perfect opportunity for you to do that," I added with a smile. I finished off my turkey sandwich and took another sip of my drink. I couldn't wait to see Spinelli with the kids here at the hospital. I just knew that he would be really compassionate with them. |

"I just hope I get the position though, I have some heavy competition from Emily Quartermaine for that job," I told her sadly. And with Emily being married to the Chief of Staff, she'd probably get it. |

"This Emily Quartermaine has nothing on you." I told him and looked into his eyes. I had never met Emily, but how could she possibly be better for the job when Spinelli was absolutely perfect for it? If she got the job just because she was married to the Chief of Staff, then that would be a darn shame, not to mention completely unfair. "I have a feeling that you'll get the position." |

"Yes, really." I told him with a small laugh. "And you're welcome." I added with a smile. I wondered if anyone, besides his grandmother, ever had faith in him before. Well, he would definitely have his own personal cheerleader in me. I had complete faith in him, which was really something since we just met and all. "When you get that position, I'll be there to say 'I told you so'." |

"Yeah, you're right." I drank the rest of my Coca-Cola and then got up from my seat. I pushed in my chair and collected my trash. I walked over to the trash can and threw away the garbage from my meal. I then put the tray back where it belogned. "Okay, all set." |
