Saying Goodbye to Micheal

It had been months since Micheal had been shot and left in a coma, and he hadn't made any improvements.

The doctor Patrick called had been very booked, and had insisted on Micheal being flown to Switzerland for a proper diagnosis. Today was the day that Micheal was going to be flown out of the country, hopefully to one day walk back through into his family's life.

Jason was sitting at Micheal's bedside, spending his last moments with his son.

"How's he doing?" Brenda asked having returned to Westland a few weeks back after hearing of Michael and Morgan's situations. "Carly's still asleep, I see." Brenda whispered noticing Carly passed out on the other bed of Michael's room.

"Carly refuses to leave," Jason told her. "But Micheal's been comatose for four months and there's been no change. The doctors are afraid to try to remove the bullet from his lung since it's a dangerous procedure, and that's causing him breathing problems."

"Jason," Brenda whispered placing her hands on his shoulders as Jason sat at comatose Michael's bedside. "I'm all about not giving up on hope... but how much longer can Michael remain on life support?"

"A long time," Jason whispered. "But I don't call this surviving, Brenda. Look at him, he hasn't moved once since that day he was shot."

"Have you been able to talk Carly into allowing him to go away for long term care?" Brenda asked in a whisper.

"She still thinks he's going to wake up," Jason told her. "It's been four months, Brenda. We need to get that bullet out of him so he can get treatments to help him."

"I've never been a huge fan of Carly's, but she's always been a great mother when push came to shove." Brenda whispered. "This has to be killing her inside-- especially with Morgan's situation."

"Morgan's trial was this week," Jason told her. "He's being sentenced today."

"Well," Brenda whispered just shaking her head at the situation in Jason's lap. "I'm sorry that this is happening to you, Jason. Even though you didn't know at the time, I know Michael's always been a son to you. I really hope that Carly and you find a way to survive this. I mean that."

"Thanks," Jason whispered as he held Micheal's hand. "Do me a favor, and find out what the verdict was in Morgan's trial before Carly does."

"Sure," Brenda smiled lightly. "I'll call you as soon as I find out." Brenda leaned over and kissed Jason on the forehead before doing the same to Michael before leaving Michael's room.

Jason watched her leave and looked down at Micheal. "Come back, Mike. Please."

Claudia Zacchara stood just outside of Michael Quartermaine's room, accidently over-hearing Brenda and Jason's whole conversation. Claudia smirked to herself as she followed Brenda down the hallway as she left.

Jason fell asleep in the chair, hoping Micheal would wake up and squeeze his hand.

"No change, just like yesterday, and the day before," Jason told her. "He's been the exact same way for the last four months, Carly. He's not waking up like this."

"I guess we have no choice, then..." Carly said feeling a sign of defeat.

Jason sat on the bed next to Carly. "This might be Micheal's only chance. We have to do this if we ever want to see our boy open his eyes."

"I promised myself I'd do whatever it'd take to save Michael... if doing this is what will save his life-- then I'm on board." Carly stated finally agreeing.

"Alright," Jason told her. "Then we have to move fast so we can get Micheal into that hospital in Switzerland."

"You stay strong," Jason told her as he took her hand. "That's the first thing. I want you go back to Micheal's place and get some of his favorite things. Stuff that he'll want to see when he wakes up. Pictures, his favorite shirt, stuff like that."

Jason made the phone calls when Carly had gone. He sat by Micheal's side, just talking to him, while Carly was out. He told his son how proud he was for beating his alcoholism, and watching out for little brother. Jason kissed Micheal's forehead as the the men from the hospital Micheal was heading to arrived.

"Please, wait," I said quietly. "For his mother to return."

Carly had brought things she could find that would make Michael comfortable in his new life. She had filled two suitcases of memories for the nurses to surround him with. She saw that the caregiving men had arrived for Michael. She cried-- a pain staking cry-- as she kissed her son's forehead and bid him farewell.

"I'm not giving up on you, Michael-- I'm just letting you get the help you need in order to wake up. When you wake up, I promise-- life will be different. It will be, I promise." Carly stated kissing Michael one final time.
