Death of jump-racing horses 'unacceptable' - SAFE

Now I'm really against this ...

I grew up in a district which was dominated by the army and horse racing. Race day was a big thing for us, people from miles around converging on the race course. Hot dogs and candy floss for the kids and perhaps the chance to pick up a winning ticket discarded by some befuddled race goer! But at age 10 when they shot a horse out in front of the stand I haven't been back since!

As far as race horses are concerned things may be better controlled than when I used to go to the track. Then there were good owners and bad owners and nastiness going on behind the scenes. Maybe all is honey and roses now but human nature is human nature and so I am skeptical.

Angora. Racing is big business and tightly controlled now.

Horses shouldn't have been racing in the heat this summer IMO.

I agree haili and I see all these unthinking owners riding their bikes with their dogs attatched and the others walking dogs for miles without bringing water along for them I wonder where their heads are. There is a place I could suggest but Im too much of a lady to mention it.

They live in air conditioned comfort and race about 3 minutes.

Yes the training. 3 minutes in the actual race.

A timing run or two.

Is that any different than humans in the Olympics?

Do I care about humans in the Olympics ..no. They do it because they want to and get all sorts of $ for it. Horses are a different animal altogether. Did you see what I did there?

Seems to me horses are better looked after than some humans.

Did I see what you did where?

I'm slow today. Not following at all.

Never mind Campy, it's one of those things that loses if you explain it.

It just becomes unfunny...like one of those "you had to be there" situations. It isn't important at all.

I have posted about this sanctuary in the past. I cannot imagine a more beautiful place for retired race horses to spend their remaining years.

Take care,
