My Day of frustration with Shaw!

Thursday I called Shaw, after noticing my online bill which I had negotiated for 60.00 + tax was now 72.45. I was told all Shaw prices went up 6.00 per month in August! My next question was how can we reduce this bill? Unlike the guy I previously spoke with, this woman I could hardly understand, a combination of her accent, and my hearing! She could view my plan online and advise me, but instead sent various labyrinth plans all originating in Wpg., I live in Edmonton. She said she would give me a return call on Saturday. No call came but a service forum did, of which I gave her service a less than stellar rating!

She sent out the Edmonton channels, for me to choose, yet again so complex and confusing at least to me! I'd written down all the channels I wanted, she assured me the personal plan was the one that would fit the channels I wanted, plus I had to pay for 3 extra that weren't included.

Tonight upon turning on the T.V. to watch the 6 p.m. news, I discover I cannot access Calgary CTV. I flip between our news and theirs, also Vancouver. Vancouver is also not accessible, nor is CNN, and many more! She explicitly said I'd have the channels I quoted that I watch plus the extra 3. Another call, this time I reached a fellow in Vancouver that I could relate to. He reinstated my former channels, known as Popular T.V. for the original cost, and threw in the movie channel fro 3 months, for my aggravation! I will find another way to cut costs lol!

Being the skeptic am, I surmise she was evening the score due to the poor service rating I submitted!

We are also with Shaw satellite and pay way too much, I'd like to get rid of some of it but hubby wants his sports channels and I want my news channels so we can't agree about what to get rid of... We don't even have HBO or the movie channels but pay about $100. a month.... way too much I'd like to cancel everything except the basic but keep the BBC and HGTV...
Don't be too sad, fg. We are paying just under $154 a month. I have it paid automatically by credit card every month precisely so I don't have to actually write them the check.
I too would like to pare down...but the big Kahuna wants it all.

Ah yes, HGTV...my home away from home.
Good true story: You know Tarek and Christina al Moussa from FLIP OR FLOP? A viewer called in some time ago and said "I am a nurse and I don't like the looks of that lump on Tarek's neck. He should have it checked out."
Turns out it was thyroid cancer and was successfully (I think) treated. Viewer may have saved his life.
<They make a cute couple...as long as he obeys her design commands, as he does.>

We pay all our bills automatically too... is $154. just for TV? we pay another $120.00 for internet and land line, which I have to check because it seems higher than it was.

I know that show, but didn't know that... good story. My fave at the moment is the Property Brothers.

120.00 for internet and land line that seems high! Our high speed with Telus is $60, our land line until we cancelled was $30.00 per month. I called Telus a month ago and asked how could we reduce this internet cost? They reduced it to 30.00 per month for 6 months, loyalty reward they called it. I'd call Shaw and tell them Telus is offering this, and they may reduce yours, they should, to retain you as a client.

I'm going to phone them because I think it's higher than was promised. I switched the landline to the cable to get a better deal, for six months but it also gave me $10.00 off the internet down to $60.00 We have an unlimited long distance plan for U.S. and Canada which makes it a higher cost. That includes taxes.

We can't get DSL where we are with Bell, but it's funny, right after I switched the phone to cable I got a call from Bell offering to knock $20.00 off the landline if we switched back. I couldn't because I'd locked in for two years. I'm pretty ticked off at Bell because I phoned them beforehand asking for a deal, but I was also ticked off mightily because last year they took away our long distance plan at the cottage. It was a cheap $10.95 a month for about a 1000 mins., they jacked it up to $21.00 refusing to give a better rate. We don't have any options there as there's no cell service. Not only that, they now charge $4.00 a month for 'location' or the area we are in, on both our phones.

Our $154 is for the "triple play": internet 30Mbps, land line and cable (second best pile) with Showtime and HBO. $20 for Netflix is extra)

So your total is quite high, FG.

It is isn't it... I think I'll do some calling but not this week as I'll be away for a few days. Maybe I can get hubby to sit down to go over the TV channels, maybe we can get rid of a few.

Another Shaw customer here. I'm thinking of getting rid of the movie channels and hope I can get HB0 without Movie Central. Not quite ready to call them yet with so much else going on but I want to get my bill down. I have Internet, Phone,Wifi, and Cable from them.
All in all, I'm pleased with the service but not the cost.
I just have the basic channels from Shaw.

Now the CRTC says you don't have to buy a whole bundle to get one channel you like.

i'm happy with what I have for the price of basic. I don't even have a HDTV yet.

Here we go again, went to watch a program on MTV last night, no access. This was included under my previous popular plan. Another hour wasted on the phone, they had cancelled mtv as according to them, I said it was fine to keep my bill at 72.00! I said but it was included within the 72.00 previously, yes but our rates increased 6.00 per month. I am now angry, threatened to move to Telus due to all the frustration, silence, then, just give me a minute. Upshot being he's giving me a credit for the 6.00 for 3 months, then I can decide if I want to keep or cancel mtv. Does anyone else fell like they are being held hostage by these damn companies? I'm still angry!

Yes you are being held hostage and paying for it as well.

I'm seriously thinking of cancelling my cable subscription just to see how I get along without it.

I simply cannot watch a whole movie anymore and I have even lost interest in football.

So I end up watching re runs of M.A.S.H.

I never pay cable, phone or anything like it on automatic withdrawal.

They can screw you and then you have an argument getting your money back if at all.

I pay my bills at the ATM machine and I don't pay anything in advance.

Sometimes by accident you click on an on demand movie channel and get billed for it if you don't cancel it right away.

No way I am going to pay for something that I didn't watch.

I phoned them and told them and the guy advised me that I was going to be billed but they will cancel it.

So I end up watching re runs of M.A.S.H.
We can get those MASH re-runs, and Mama's Family, and Carol Burnett on THE ME CHANNEL over the air in NYC. All I need is rabbit ears in the window.

But then, what does one do for high speed internet?

We just got a $4 bump up in NY tax on cable service bringing us to $157 + $20 Netflix (including internet and land line phone.)

I could try cutting the cord but for internet and see how it goes, but HE won't even hear of it. <Bob loves to spend money...without me, he'd be penniless. He thinks that saving money is throwing it away.>

Trotsky could you not just go to your cell phones and cancel the land line? We cancelled our land line, I disputed at first, but it's worked out fine. DH informed me few have land lines in Europe, my reply was, but I'm not in Europe!

I like to save $$ but as we get older I'm thinking more Like Bob, why deprive yourselves if you can afford it, your inheritors will not ! My DH is also a spender, he has 3 of every electronic gadget that has ever been made! He seems to purchase in 3's we have 3 keurig coffee makers, 2 small and one large, one needs redundancy you know ~sigh!

I can understand the "redundancy" thinking, I'm starting to wonder how we can get rid of all the duplicates and triplicates of all the gadgets and electronic marvels I've bought over the years.
