An animal hospital in St. Catharine’s is closed today after CTV News Toronto released video yesterday that showed the owner punching and choking animals. The veterinarian at Skyway Animal Hospital, Dr. Mahavir Singh Rekhi, was suspended for ten months in August after being found guilty of professional misconduct by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO). But should he complete a series of “mentorship sessions” concerning the proper handling of animals, he is eligible for a reduction of his suspension down to four months. http://toronto.ctvnews.ca/animal-hospital-closed-customers-protest-vet-s-suspension-after-video-of-animal-abuse-released-1.3073396 This Dr should never be allowed to practice again. He's a monster!! What bothers me the staff knew and didn't report it earlier..... |

We watched that last night on CTV news, very disturbing. The guy is a sadistic bastard and should be stripped of his credentials. |

The hope is that his name becomes so widely known that he will never work again. Sadistic bastard says it nicely. |

I hope the st Catherines papers and radio stations covered it big time. Do Vets have some kind of regulatory body like doctors do? I cant imagine anything worse than to entrust your helpless pet to scum like this. What is the matter with people who are so degenerate that hurting the helpless is what they need to do? |

There is a petition to have his license to practice permanently revoked. The animals he has treated are now permanently scarred for life, the trust of any veterinarian will be suspect. https://www.change.org/p/the-college-of-veterinarians-of-ontario-permanently-revoke-dr-mahavir-singh-rekhi-s-veterinary-license |

Disgusting. How could this take two years to go before it went to court? Hope his reputation follows him wherever he tries to go. |

Angora it was the College of Veterinarians of Ontario who imposed the very lax strictures on this guy, that is the professional body and they don't seem to perturbed by his behaviour. Their attitude is as reprehensible as his behaviour. |

Fuzzy pointed out that the Vet regulatory body was very lax in their judgement, applying only a 10 month punishment. That is all they're going to do about it, I guess. So, its up to citizens to take a stand. If the St Catherines media makes a big fuss, maybe he wont be able to work up a practice there again. I plan to keep his name and look out for new vets in Stratford or Ajax where I have some access to names of newcomers. What else I can do, I dont know. |

I saw on the news today that someone (don't remember who) is going to bring criminal charges against him. |

The OSPCA is now investigating and may press charges. If found guilty he is looking at a possible 5 years. I keep my fingers crossed. |

I have not posted because everything I am thinking has already been said. This is beyond disgusting. Hopefully the OSPCA will press charges and he will be convicted and never will be able to touch another helpless animal. Take care, Pat |
