MIAMI -- Jose Fernandez, the ace right-hander for the Miami Marlins who escaped Cuba to become one of baseball's brightest stars, was killed in a boating accident early Sunday morning. Fernandez was 24. Authorities said Fernandez was one of three people killed in a crash off Miami Beach. Chief Petty Officer Nyxolyno Cangemi told The Associated Press that a Coast Guard patrol boat spotted an overturned boat at 3:30 a.m. on a jetty near Government Cut. The bodies were discovered a short time later. Photos Jose Fernandez death The Marlins announced Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, that ace right-hander Fernandez has died. Terrible - so young. Young people are never careful enough. However that's one of the nicest things about being young; the boundless faith that you'll live for ever. RIP |

Geez, with $2.8 million a year, you'd think he'd have bought a safer boat. I too, am sad when people are killed so young. In retrospect, I guess staying in Cuba might have been wiser for him. Edited by Trotsky, Sep 26 2016, 10:19 AM.

Now that the autopsy results are in.......... He was drunk, with a blood alcohol reading THREE times the legal limit for boating. So, drunk, at night, in a high speed boat and he hits a stone breakwater, that kills him. Play stupid games, get the stupid prize. JiM B. |
