A shooting outside of a southwest Calgary nightclub early Sunday has left Calgary Stampeder Mylan Hicks dead, the team has confirmed.

"Obviously this is an extremely difficult and upsetting time for the players and staff," the team's president and general manager John Hufnagel said.

"He worked hard every day to get better and he had patience and he had all the traits you wanted to have in that locker room," he said.

I agree Pat. A young guy full of talent and a college degree, leaves Detroit to get gunned down in Calgary.. who would have thought. I've been in bars at 2.30 am in my younger years, never a good scene.. too much drink, violence and stupidity prevails. Unfortunately, the suspects in this shooting were known to police, and the revolving justice door puts them back onto the streets as soon as they are caught. Listen to police inspector Don Colman, at the end of the video (make sure your sound is on) http://calgaryherald.com/news/crime/one-dead-after-macleod-trail-shooting
