My last dental appt. 8 months ago my dentist noticed a lesion in the roof of my mouth. He referred me to a pathologist on the S. Side of the city. I live in the west end and we have a large office of specialists within 5 minutes driving of my house! I digress, however the lesion was benign but he suggested I get it removed by his buddy at U of A! I declined, I do not go under the knife for a minute lesion that is benign. He also told me it could vanish on it's own, presently it's about the size of a pin head. I just rec'd notice of a follow up appt. I declined. He came back to me with this snarky e-mail asking me if anyone had looked in my mouth with a light and told me this lesion was basically nothing to be concerned about, not his choice of words but meaning the same! I replied no they had not, but it's now the size of a pin head and I'm not worried. They booked another follow up appt. for 7:25 at night the end of Nov. I do not drive at night to the S, side of the city. I'm ticked and feel I'm being pressured into honouring this appt. when i feel it's a total waste of time, just $$ in his pocket!

These guys refer to their buddies all the time. I would go to who is more convenient for me and cancel in a heartbeat if I felt it was a waste of time and $$$!

Swing: I would cancel the appointment and ask for a referral to someone closer, stating your very valid reasons - distance, driving at night (and probably in the snow). (I would make a comment about him loosing the referral fee!!)

I'd ask for a referral to someone closer but I wouldnt make a comment - why raise hackles if you dont have to.

Angora: The comment in brackets was tongue in cheek - it wasn't meant as serious reply. Sorry if you took it the wrong way.

No,, I'm sorry. I should have known that you would not seriously suggest that. We really do need a 'sarcasm' font.

I did just that this morning, she replied cancelling my appt. and gave me his schedule of daily appts. at the University hospital which is still on the S. Side! These people are persistent, perhaps the economy is affecting them also lol!

Swing: Persistent is right. At least now you have control on the time of appointment.

Angora: Thank you

I so dislike being "controlled" by others, and being made to feel obligated.. I read a book once many years ago called "don't say yes, when you really mean no" Upon turning 70 I vowed I was not going to do what others expected i should!

You would be persistent too if you had been reduced to driving your Mercedes for TWO years, while you neighbor, a vice president at Telus, got to change his annually.

LOl! You are so right, there is a competitive component, see it every day! The ear, nose and throat guy at the back of me, is now retired, they both drive Mercedes. The son who is 47, never been employed since we arrived 28 years ago, drives a BMW. We've exchanged about 28 words in 28 years, we don't quite meet their social status, fortunately I'm not affected by "the plastic people"!

The saga continues! Received an e-mail from said specialist again with an appt. booked for the follow up. I replied saying I would not be coming to this appt. as lesion had disappeared as he indicated it could. I then get an e-mail from my dentist saying your contact info. has changed please call. I did with my new phone #. She then says Dr. M wants to see you for a follow up. I said "I am not going" silence, I then once again reiterated why. She then says the dentist would like to see you so he can report to the pathologist! i said i will book an appt for a cleaning soon, as I'm not paying for the dentist to check my mouth as there's nothing there! I am so frustrated with these people. I'm a 70 year old woman who knows when a lesion has vanished in my mouth! Am I over reacting?

I then get a letter from my Drs. office to please call, again new Phone # required. It seems 6 months ago my Dr. took it upon herself to refer me to an audiologist. They have booked an appt. but can't get in touch. I said I didn't request this, we talked about my hearing. She said do you want a referral, I said not really as I will never wear hearing aids ~vanity if you will ! This appt. is in the north end of the city 15 miles from home and ther้'s a clinic 5 minutes from my house in the west end. DH says they see me as an annuity!
