We buy our pancake syrup as Brand X and the main ingredients are usually Corn syrup or High Fructose Corn Syrup (usually at ALDI's. )We ran out and we were desperate for pancakes. We went to Dollar Tree and bought a pint of Forelli brand syrup (Forelli brand is common in dollar stores.) First ingredients were Rice Syrup and high fructose rice syrup...never seen that before. Strange taste and smell (slightly of rice.) It's edible but I wouldn't buy it again. I guess any starch can be converted to sugar syrup and even high fructose sugar syrup. The U.S. has an abundance of corn, and China has an abundance of rice, so that's that. |

I will go without if I cannot have real maple syrup. My all time favourite for pancakes is brown sugar and lemon juice. I do not often eat pancakes. |

I enjoy pancakes occasionally, especially when camping, and just use ordinary syrup. Homemade batter with an egg and a bit of olive oil. The current syrup bottle is Aunt Jemima's. It is a good, filling breakfast or lunch on a leisurely day. Maple syrup is a special treat, usually on ice cream. |

A lot of Dollar store food is made in China, imported and disguised to look like a North American product. We buy the 1 L jug of real maple syrup at Costco, and use it for the once a month time we have pancakes and I use it as a topping for ice cream as well. I grew up in an area of Ontario that made maple syrup every spring, so we never knew store bought imitations. One of my favourite treats is about 1/2 cup of Quaker Harvest Crunch cereal with maple syrup poured over, mmm. |

We LOVE maple syrup but since we have 2 meals a week of Pancakes, Waffles or French toast, we simply cannot afford maple syrup at $20 a quart. I put an ounce of maple into 24 ounces of cheapy syrup but we won't waste any maple on this rice stuff. |

https://authoritynutrition.com/maple-syrup/ Maple Syrup: Healthy or Unhealthy? Maple syrup is about 2/3rds sucrose (as in table sugar) and a 100 grams of it therefore supply around 67 grams of sugar. |

Some things are worth splurging for, including real maple syrup. Have you tried fruit-based toppings instead, ie blueberry, strawberries and raspberries in season, apple butter, etc? |

Some things are worth splurging for, including real maple syrup. So true! When in school in Ottawa my D got tired of the school outings to the "sugar bush"! I enjoyed them as we were the receipents of the syrup! |

The last time I had maple syrup was with Ron and we were camping. He made the pan cakes and we always had the real thing. I am not a real fan of pan cakes especially those thick ones you get everywhere. My mother made very thin pan cakes...Dutch style and as kids growing up we loved then. Good thing as we had them a lot LOL |

Like Dialtone I grew up in maple syrup Ontario. About once a week when my farm country aunt was too tired to make a fresh cake or pie for both dinner and supper, the lazy dessert was a bowl of maple syrup and white bread and butter. |

I'd rather have pancakes less often but with real maple syrup and I like some blueberries with them even if the blueberries are frozen. Years ago I made my own fake maple syrup. Just simmer brown sugar and water and add some maple flavouring. |

I try to avoid anything with high fructose corn syrup. I would have to look up the reason why, but it is supposed to be very unhealthy. We use only real maple syrup and have pancakes about once a week. Lately, I am making the sour dough pancakes, or I make a pancake mix with whole wheat flour. If you find real maple syrup too pricey, try mixing it half and half with other table syrup. |

I'm not keen on syrups and very sweet tasting maple syrup on my cereal or pancakes. I do make my own I have several jars of various kinds the best one I prefer is mango-pineapple I had a jam recipe from Tanzania very simple a few mangos couple of pineapples juice and all squirt of citrus juice couple cups of sugar cook it down the natural pectin will thicken it up lovely taste either on pancakes cereal ice cream, usually I will check the reduced shelves see what exotic goodies peoplearen't buying.. if you get a few jars from something the cost is far less the taste much better,, |

Sounds good, but I would call that a mango chutney. |
