Maybe you can get a new one if you bought it after 1996 (I think mine is older:)

I use it for only two things: Chickpea Hummus, and a velvety smooth pate/spread of chicken livers and onions. (Long ago I thought I was going to be a whiz with all kinds of terrines and pates...never happened. A terrine is only as good as its very pricey ingredients and I am a cheapskate.)

But if my model is correct I will try for a new safe unbreakable blade, the main blade is so sharp I am afraid to wash it, much less have it fly apart and try to kill me. The processor is way in the back under the sink and my back is not going to haul it out for a couple days. Lifting something heavy 2 feet away is a killer for me. In front of it is a mountain of Corning ware (you all know what I mean.)

I dug into the back of the undersink storage. THis was not easy because it was behind a ton of corningware and pyrex bake dishes...back killing me this morning.
So,yes indeed, my model was recalled and I have a new cutting blade on the way.

If you have a Cuisineart, check it. Here is a more complete list of models that are affected:

Mine was the DLC-10E.

(Model is stamped on the bottom and may require a magnifying glass.)

Now that I have the damn thing pulled out, I should make something with it. Damn, back in New Jersey, I shopped at Shop-Rite and for their Can-Can sales I could buy chickpeas for $.25 a can...in NYC about a buck so I haven't made hummus since we moved 6 years ago.

If I want to grate a block of parmesan I'm really glad of my Kitchen Aid food processor.

Trotsky: Do you think a slider will facilitate moving your cuisinart without throwing your bac out? I use this for coffee maker but other appliances would work with it too.

Some things only a Cuisineart will handle.

I have a wand mixer (not as pretty as Durgan's) but I wouldn't want to try to make a smooth hummus with it. Wand mixers are good for soups...and fighting off pirates. laugh123

I use this blade only for all chopping and juicing. It is a marvel. It has to be ordered separately.

THat is exactly the shape of the defective cutter on the recalled Cuisinart but for the fact that the blade is riveted to the support column and it is these rivets that break:

A little rough. Try a teaspoon of psyllium husk from a bulk food store in a glass of liquid daily.

Nothing better than hummus, except maybe my puree of black bean soup (which I do in a powerful blender.)
One dinner sized serving:

One 15 ounce can of black beans, liquid and all (Goya is best and jet black rather than brownish black.)
1/2 can water.
tsp ground cumin
1 ounce lemon juice
Couple shakes of cayenne pepper.
Blend til smooth.
Heat in a double boiler for 1/2 hour or use a regular pot and stir very often til it comes to a simmer.
Serve in a BIG bowl with a Tbsp of minced onions atop.

For two constipated souls, double the recipe.
Next morning brings bathroom happiness sometimes several bouts of happiness.

My deli sells the grated parmesan. No need for separate processing.

Small kitchen. No room for anything huge.
