My son has been on opiates for back pain for 10 years. He decided a couple months ago he wanted off of them, it's been a journey but he's doing well. He picked up his script at Safeway on Friday, and being that it was a month's supply counted them. He was 8 short, a few previous scripts have been minus a couple pills but he said nothing. Decreasing he's not using the full script, however I encouraged him to call the pharmacy, as someone is obviously "using" the pills. He said I know who it is, as one time I heard her ask if her morphine script was ready! She's a pharmacy tech., and was working the day, as well as two pharmacists. He called, pharmacist said J had filled the script and said I will call you back. She did within 10 minutes, told him this girl had admitted taking them! Pharmacist asked if he wanted to lay charges, he said No, as he didn't want her to lose her job, as he felt this would only worsen her predicament. Pharmacist then asked if he wanted an apology, he said No, I just want her to seek help and get well. As someone who has had his own problems in life, he knows you can become dependent on opiates. There also comes a time when you become tolerant on the perscribed dosage and require more., this is probably what's happening here. Pharmacist asked him not to mention this to any of the other pharmacy staff. I'm hoping she's off on medical leave to have this taken care of and wasn't relieved of her job. When son reiterated he didn't want her to lose her job, pharmacist said this is a "controlled substance" we're dealing with here! This happened on Friday, I was in today and just the two of them in the pharmacy, so what has taken place I do not know. Anyone else count their scripts? I never do but don't take narcotics! |

That's a nice story Swing. I always check the dosage before I leave the drug store but it has never crossed my mind to count the amount of piils. |

It seems to me that asking a customer to take action in this case is a major problem. I would think that the pharmacist has left her(him)self open to serious charges! Should the clerk cause trouble and an investigation takes place and it becomes known that the pharmacist failed to intervene that the law wouldn't be so lenient! She didn't ask son to take action, she asked him if he wanted to file a police report! When he declined she said she would take care of the situation. She obviously has, as the girl was not working yesterday and was scheduled on the weekend shift with the two pharmacists. This lady son spoke with is the head pharmacist. I compare the situation to bank employees I worked with that stole $$. The Mgr. took care of the situation, immediate dismissal, perhaps being unionized makes a difference I do not know. |

What I take from this, Swing is that your son is a good person. I'm glad that his life is getting better but I've been hearing tiny things about him, from you ,for several years now and in every instance his reaction to things was that of a good, kind, empathetic person. Here's to good things coming to him this year and for always. Thanks Angora, it's been a journey but I think finally we are making progress. Many years of a misdiagnosis by some top rated Drs. have left me frustrated with little faith in the system! One would've thought with all the apparent symptoms someone would've clued in sooner! |

That's a nice story Swing. I always check the dosage before I leave the drug store but it has never crossed my mind to count the amount of piils. Probably not necessary unless it's a narcotic or benzo. I don't think there would be a demand for my B.P. or cholestrol drugs lol! |

I always check the meds match the script but have never actually counted the tablets. Mine are in blister packs of 30 usually six to a sheet, not loose individual ones. Edited by sooty, Jan 10 2017, 09:35 PM.

Swing, it really does sound like your son has made great strides to wellness, and his ompassion for another needs to be applauded. I would hold that the individual who took stole the pills was given a a medical leave rather than immediate dismissal. It certainly sounds like a drug related problem. Although it could be that the pills were being sold. |

She was always such a miserable looking girl and treated my son like a criminal occasionally when he'd pick up his script. The pain Dr. had perscribed the med. and it was of no concern to her. I almost complained to Mgmt. about her. She was off putting to me one day and I said "not having a good day"?? I worked in customer service for many years, and a degree of civility is in order! I think probably she now will realize the very person she disrespected has given her a "break"! |

Just yesterday I said to the very miserable Cleark serving me at a Dollar Store to have a nice day. I thought he needed to know not every shopper is a pain in the neck. |
