Jet Dry is the blue stuff you add to a small dispenser in your dishwasher. It ostensibly allows for faster and spot free dishes especially glassware. It is EXPENSIVE at nearly $2 an ounce. Whether it works as advertised is in the eye of the beholder but I don't like throwing away that kind of money. The internet is loaded with alternatives, most notably white vinegar. Of the hundreds in praise of the vinegar, only one reviewer has complained that the vinegar is damaging her rubber gaskets.<That single post scared me.> http://wholenewmom.com/whole-new-budget/natural-dishwasher-rinse-aid-important-update/ Do you use Jet Dry, an alternative, or nothing? <Someone said that Dollar Tree has an alternative that is pretty good. I have not noticed it but I will search hard next time. We have a DT nearby. In fact we buy their 30 ounce bottle of POWER X Gel dishwasher detergent for a buck...works pretty good and it is about 1/7 the price of Cascade Gel. Edited by Trotsky, Jan 10 2017, 11:19 AM.

Nothing like Jet Dry Trotsky. Worth the price of admission. It's a tension reducer which allows spot free drying. We used a similar product in photography called Photo Flo. You don't have to use it all the time. Just on glasses. Vinegar doesn't cut it. If you like champagne. You have to love Jet Dry. |

I used the cheap alternative from the Dollar Store and it goes a long way; too bad I keep forgetting to buy it. |

Campy, Isn't "tension reducer" just another name for "detergent?" I had thought of using a couple drops of Palmolive in water to do the same thing as the Jet Dry. <I know too much will give me a mess of suds.> haili, Yes, I will look harder at my Dollar Stores, starting with Dollar Tree probably later in the day, if I feel like walking a mile in this cold. Campy is right...I use jet dry and it works really well. Seeing there is only me in the house I do not run the dish washer every day. seems to me it lasts a long time before I have to fill the space with the jet dry. |

I tried Dollar Tree this afternoon. They had no Jet Dry substitute. Hmm, a thought: Windex? |

Jet Dry here too. I think the most important is softened water though. |

Good point. We use Jet Dry and I don't think it's wonderful. Our water is hard and reeks of chlorine so good chance nothing would work. If we didn't use JD, the spots likely would be worse. I buy it at Costco. Every other week it's on sale. |

The Dollar store dishwasher sachets (Ultra-Shine) that I mentioned in another post leave better sparking glassware than Jet Dry so it must have some similar component. So no more Jet Dry and the cost savings of just one bottle will buy me 70 loads of sparkling dishes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GauWRJdqB5g <SHe likes to say "Freakin'" a lot> laugh123 |
