I hope I never get the juice with the strawberry tops; they make me break out in hives. It happened to me after taking vitamin c pills containing strawberry leaves. They should list all the ingredients so people know whether or not to buy these products.

I think in some places it is mandated that ingredients must be listed. That is a good point.

We in NA do not have to use garbage for food. The produce scrapped in growing fields would feed a large organization. Scrap food in general does not make ideal animal food due to sanitary concerns. Composting the scraps is also good for the environment in many ways.

In my little 2000 square foot garden most of the produce is wasted. No way I can utilize the abundance. Neighbors don't want it, also it has to be harvested and trimmed even to give it away. The competition is severe, with hamburger joints etc just down the street.

The company is babbling mostly nonsense.

Not everyone lives with the abundance that we do. And as the population of the world increases we will need more sources of food. Plus which this idea is reducing the waste products that enters landfills.

Farmers who have pigs use scraps for feed. We hardly wasted anything on the farm as what we didn't eat, the pigs or dogs would eat and the rest was compost.

One family fine but a public place or large organization feeding pigs the scraps is asking for trouble.

I believe this discussion is also about what we in the west are comfortable with. In some countries all food scraps are collected at the end of each day for feeding to farm animals or using as compost. Sort of like night soil collectors from not all that long ago.

People who rented our farm raised pigs and they went to the doughnut stores around gathered day olds and that is what those poor pigs were fed.

When we had pigs we fed them warm mash from the Purina company. They began their lives eating 'Purina Pig Startina' which name delighted my adolescent brain. :)

Oh good lord! When we had pigs Dad fed them chop. Don't ask me what the chop was comprised of, probably chopped,wheat, oats and barley.

Our pigs were fed chop made from oats and barley but they also got veg. scraps, etc. Any fat from meat was either used for frying or put on the dog's food. Nothing was wasted back then.

I agree waste was non existent. This was very much ingrained in my upbringing, I waste little and prepare from "scratch". I do have lazy days, but have never used a cake mix except angel food in my life!

Growing up in the 50's, a butcher/farmer use to collect food wastes from restaurants/produce stores to feed his pigs. That was the norm in those days.

Not every household have access to composting but here in Vancouver, we have the green bins for reduce waste from food scraps (which gets composted). The city is targeting restaurants to NOT put food waste in the regular garbage.


Swing: Preparing food from scratch is much healthier. Whenever I go to restaurants I think " I can get better & healthier ingredients and cook at home for 1/4 (or less) the cost of a restaurant meal."

So accurate! We seldom frequent restaurants any longer, except for special occasions. The WEM casino where I lunch with a friend have good food. Their prices are even creeping up now, unless you order their special soup and salad for 8.50, most salads are 15.00.
