I have darned a few socks in my day, but no more! Unless the rest of the sock appears to be perfectly good, I might sew up a small hole, but find that most of the time, if they are starting to wear to that extent, another darn will soon be necessary, etc.

I think the last time I darned socks (husband's) was about 58 years ago. After I finished darning the lumps it made weren't comfortable for him to walk on. It was called "method in the madness"! 023
I was picturing you darnig with this Trotsky:

I can remember my Mom darning some socks for my Dad and remember telling her that I will never be doing that for my husband and I never did.

Ive never darned a sock in my life and I'm not going to start now.

That would apply to moi also, as many have implied I purchase 4 or 6 of the same colour!

All my socks are either black or black so I belong to the just-throw-it-away group. I wonder what happened to my mother's darning egg, must have a look for it.

No to darning. I just bought 6 packages of socks. Three in a pack, $2 a pack. That'll last a long time. Maybe longer than me.

My mother used to darn our socks when she came to visit.
I have her wooden darning tool that came from Holland and for
some reason I have MIL's wood one that came from Russia.
One is concave and the other convex.

I have never darned a sock.
I had such a wooden tool inherited from my mother but it seemed to disappear somehow. It was shaped like a turkey drumstick...I cannot imagine a use for a concave one.

So now I use a light bulb. It works well even if I never have one nearby when I decide to do my annual darn. <I MUST have an interesting TV show playing or the DARN boredom laugh123 might be fatal.>
I would post a picture but have not used the camera for some time
and do not have that one loaded into my computer as it was Ron's camera.
Seems it is only my phone camera I use. Wish it was as easy posting those pictures
as it is on FB.

I tried to darn socks, the skill was never passed down. I use socks with holes for dusting, had never thought of using them on a Swiffer, or for me, now a Vileda. I will now.

I darned socks as a kid, since I only had one pair.

I consider the practice synonymous with going to church and about as exciting.
I would have but we couldn't afford thread. laugh123

Like Angora I never darned socks. Ray use to darn his wool socks using a light bulb. I stayed out of the room as I visioned the needle going through the bulb with cursing and cut fingers.

always buy 6 or more pairs of the same socks - eventually quite a few pairs with a spare.
I buy them by the dozen.
Unfortunately, even then they wash differently with some pairs getting narrower than others, some getting shorter than others. So the job of matching becomes even harder.
