Sorry to hear of the loss of Mozzy, Blizzard. We have always had dogs, but know the heartbreak involved when losing a pet, take care!

I hate to admit it but once again I have forgotten how to copy the whole tag line for my most recent blog post. I think I have a memory block when it comes to such things. Like blocking people inadvertently from Facebook. So, here is the first paragraph of Suzhou. It should help explain the choppiness. There are pictures for anyone who cares to find the most recent entry.

Edited with full tag. Thank goodness.

Suzhou: Two nights

Day One

The most frustrating part about travelling is trying to capture the trip by carefully writing down highlights, along with the not so pleasant aspects, with everything still fresh in the memory bank. Of course with pictures. Which I may have deleted. Imagine, after using up several hours overnight at an airport finishing a piece to share with anyone interested, discovering that it is not there! Seems I forgot to save my draft about my visit to Suzhou. Which is why I have always take notes!

Trotsky, I doubt I will ever get another cat - too hard emotionally to say goodbye.
My feelings precisely.

I am way behind. Made an executive decision to start with my Vietnam entries only to have spotty wifi. Already into Day four of the motorbike tour and this entry is only my first three days in Saigon!

Vietnam Motorbike Tour: Day One

I was pretty well packed and ready to go, all I had to do was put on my runners, drink my tea and finish chatting to my daughter who had decided she will meet me in Hoi An as there was not enough time for her to fly to Saigon and catch up with me. I received a message saying my ride had arrived – 45 minutes early. I decided right then we would get along. I hate being late for anything.

Vietnam Motorbike Tour: Day Two

I had expected I would sleep in after a tiring day of riding in the sun. However, I was up at my usual 5:00am. I finally headed out to find something to eat at about 7:30 and sent a message to Toan letting him know where I was. A bit of confusion, he thought I wanted to go for breakfast whereas I was already eating. Seems my choice of next door was not his first pick. Oh well, the Pho (pronounced Fa, like in Fa,la,la, la... ) was still one of the better bowls so far.

Fairy Stream – no reason for the name other than a direct translation. It is a sandy stream great for walking in simply because. I also found it was like a foot exfoliation from the fine sand. The depth rarely went past my ankles and had few strong currents. The brown is due to the constant movement of the sand. Stand in one spot too long and you will slowly sink. A pleasant beginning to a full morning of sights.

Be forewarned: This is my brain on too much threat of nuclear annihilation. I need a vacation from reality-exfoliating thoughts-lol. So, I thought I’d join you on-line on your Vietnam holiday.

Do I even need to mention the lingering heartache that will, for me, forever accompany anything “Vietnam” related? Probably not but there it is. So many sad memories associated with a place I’ve never been...

Still, there you are! On an adventure that feels so fearless, to me. Good for you! And thank you for sharing. I’m having vicarious fun with you.

I so appreciate the beauty you captured in those photographs, blizzard. Each one remarkable in its own way. But let’s unpack “Random Person” because I am really caught up in it right this second.

I mean, this photo seems unreal, right? Like Dali’s “hand-painted dream photograph.” Sorta, kinda, just go with it-lol.

I do find the imagery startling in its happenstance surrealism, laden with seemingly staged symbolism. So many artsy elements just fell into place for you there, camera ready!

You've got Magritte’s ideas about the element of repetition (trauma) in the sand complete with a Freudian slip! Unreal. Or, Dali’s "sands of time are quicksand." Your subject seems to be in hurry to get somewhere. Aren’t we all?

How fun is this?

OK. Maybe it’s just me chasing that clean line running through the middle ground. The paradox of chasing clarity and “wth?”

How ‘bout that black umbrella on a grey day. (I know the subject is using it as a parasol but the actual imagery is stunning. Both an invitation to wander/wonder in art appreciation, and a directive to stop—to admire her fashion sense. Flips/flops and a bucket bag? Gotta stop & wonder: What’s inside that bag?

OK, I won’t analyze that out loud-lol-but I will say, I love this woman and this mind-blowing photograph.

Yes. In case you’re wondering—the answer is yes— my art professor loved me! Or maybe, I just imagined that, too. Hahaha

Also, you traveled to Vietnam to explore a hammock??? If that’s not the quintessential poetic portrait of the spirit of adventure, I don’t know what is-

Two James Wright poems for you:

Quote:

Against Surrealism

There are some tiny obvious details in human life that sur-
vive the divine purpose of boring fools to death. In France,
all the way down south in Avallon people like to eat cake.
The local bakers there spin up a little flour and chocolate into
the shape of a penguin. We came back agin and again to a
certain window to admire a flock of them, But we never
bought one.

We found ourselves wandering through Italy homesick for
penguins.

Then a terrible and savage fire of the dog-days roared all
over the fourteenth Arondissement: which is to say it was
August: and three chocolate penguins appeared behind a win-
dow near Place Denfert-Rochereau. We were afraid the Pa
risians would recognize them, so we bought them all and
snuck them home under cover.

We set them out on a small table above half the rooftops
of Paris. I reached out to brush a tiny obvious particle of dust
from the tip of a beak. Suddenly the dust dropped an inch
and hovered there. Then it rose to the beak again.

It was a blue spider.

If I were a blue spider, I would certainly ride a on train all
the way from Avallon to Paris, and I would set up my house
on the nose of a chocolate penguin. It’s just a matter of com-
mon sense.

Quote:

Lying in a Hammock at William Duffy’s Farm in Pine Island, Minnesota

Over my head, I see the bronze butterfly,
Asleep on the black trunk,
Blowing like a leaf in green shadow.
Down the ravine behind the empty house,
The cowbells follow one another
Into the distances of the afternoon.
To my right,
In a field of sunlight between two pines,
The droppings of last year’s horses
Blaze up into golden stones.
I lean back, as the evening darkens and comes on.
A chicken hawk floats over, looking for home.
I have wasted my life.

No wasted life for you. You’re living a dream! Arriba! Arriba! Andale!

I better get myself to a beach...

Fabulous! I love the penguin poem. Alright, I know it is not so much the penguins - or perhaps it is - but, like the woman on the dunes, why not?
Fashion sense. LOL! Some were wearing kitten heels. A least no stilettos from what I could see.

Time is all relative. It is taking longer to write, edit photos and post s put my trip than being in the moment.

Vietnam Motorbike Tour: Day Four

Whenever possible I like to have a view from my room when I wake up in the morning and had to ask my guide about changing my room in Bao Loc as it overlooked the entrance and had a very strong light that penetrated the curtains. I was promised a great morning view of the valley. I woke up to fog.

Vietnam Mororbike Tour: Day 5

Lions, Dragons and Buddhas, oh my! As already mentioned, I saw a lot of lion dances. There were more as we left Da Lat and headed towards another mountain. I shall always think I was being ushered in and given a grand farewell. We were on our way to Lak.
