We have a small hand blower we use for light snow and leaves. Last winter iImistakenly put gas in it instead of the combo that was mixed in another can! It no longer works, mechanic next door advised DH to dry out the spark plug, file whatever, short story it still doesn't work! Any ideas handymen? I'm not held in high regard @ the moment as replacement value is 300.00! |

You probably froze the motor. It needs that oil to lubricate its moving parts and pistons. It's probably TOAST. Edited by Trotsky, Jun 2 2017, 05:07 AM.

Those 2 stroke engines are a pain, I had a weed trimmer that lasted 1 summer, and ended up giving it away. What I would do is mix a tank full with double the oil mix, if it starts it will smoke like crazy, but burn the tank it will lubricate the motor. Then clean the plug and burn the regular mix. |

If it's screwed, it's screwed, no sense spending any money on it. One of my friends had a new gas station employee put gasoline into his deisel truck tank, totally screwed the engine, over $ 15K that fortunately the gas station insurance covered . |

Now that surprises me, an insurance that didn't dispute, fortuitous for him,as that is substantially more than my 300.00 error! |

My seized engine moan: Sister borrowed my 1957 Plymouth SportFury (highly collectible these days) 3/4 race cams and dual quad carburetors. Car was made to race and went through oil (with incredible blow by.) Next day sister said "red light was on all night...something must be wrong with it." I asked where she had gone: "Pennsylyvania to Manhattan and back" with the oil light on. Engine never turned over again. Pistons were welded to the block. I replaced the engine with a "normal" CHrysler 318. It ran but the car was no longer any fun...like gelding a stallion. She borrowed it again and smacked the Fury into 4 parked cars. My uncle took pity and gave me a 3 ton Lincoln sedan (ugly mother that went through gas like I go through gin) to get around college with. Sorry sis...no more. Lesson learned. Personally, I've had it with 2 cycle engines. Last summer I put a new carbeuretor into my $129 grass trimmer ($50) which made it work very well for the hour I used it. This year, again, it won't start. I used pure gasoline, no alcohol, and fuel stabilizer. The battery electric one is quieter, lighter and always starts instantly. Yes, I miss the power but it's not worth the frustration. For two years I have refused to pay $700 for a gas rototiller. My 50 year old one has a worn out worm gear, which is fatal, but the engine is fine and starts easily because it is a four cycle one. A few days ago I chatted with a friend getting ready for a garage sale. He happened to have a one year old one, which I got for $300. It is a beauty, lots of power, even a reverse gear and starts easily. Four cycle so no mixing oil with the fuel. I gave the old tiller to the school shop where students learn engine repair and build go carts. I'm sure the almost new one will last me and somebody else a lifetime. |

My sentiments exactly, 2 cycle engines are nothing but trouble and frustration. We bought a new lawn mower from Cantire about 10 yrs ago, 4 stroke and has a Briggs and Stratton 4.25 HP engine. I don't do anything to this unit except change the oil once in a while. It lives under our back deck, endures -40C to +40C, is usually covered in grass and dust, starts every spring with the first pull.. even using last year's old gas. |

I have a Sears riding mower that came with a 11 H.P. Briggs-Stratton. It had a 4 cycle engine. Then one day, it suddenly stopped while I was cutting. In the crank-case is a splash wheel that throws oil up into the cylinder walls. The gear that turns this wheel lost a tooth hence no splashed lubricant. When the piston seized, the connecting rod broke and punched a hole in the engine block. End of that engine. Fortunately, Princess Auto had a 13 HP engine on sale for $700. With the new, more powerful engine it does a superior job. |
