HBO's special BIRTH OF A NATION is good television. It has little to do with the old movie of the same title, but is rather a pretty accurate, if grim, telling of the story of Nat Turner (and I won't give any more away lest some of you are not familiar with the name.)

Watch it if you can but be prepared for some brutality.

Nat Turner was the first and last serious attempt of the slaves at rebellion. The successful slave rebellion of Haiti scared the bewitches out of the slave-owner's.
