Ive included this review for anyone who wants to look up particulars of the production.

John and I and friends saw this overwhelming production a few weeks ago. It has stayed with me night and day since. As the review will tell you it is set at the North Pole and covers the times between unspoiled north to post civilized north. It tells the story of a particular polar bear who lives during these times.

It starts out in an Inuit band who first come upon the bear and their accommodations to each other. The reviewer says he/she found this part of the play stilted or some such. I didnt find it that way. It seemed to me the most authentic part of the performance. The actors in this scene were all indigenous and the production and performances were straight forward and simple. I think it was believable and touching.

The play moves on to the time of The Franklin Expedition and humanizes and white and indigenous characters more that I've seen in any representation of the time.

Through the performance the bear remains central to the action. And what a bear he is! The puppeteering and the costuming are superb and you certainly have 'feels' for the bear. In a way it is a groundbreaking performance like the actor portraying Gollum in The Lord of the Rings.

Although I found the whole play a little preachy, it did touch me deeply from the clean and simple beginning to the ugly greedy end.

I left in tears as did my party.

It's on until Sept 22,

the play is actually titled, The Breathing Hole. Sorry

The bear is beautiful. Would love to see it, I hope they will re-stage it in Toronto.

Angora,
Do you think it will play well on Broadway, or is it too much a Canadian thing?

I certainly hope so. It is so powerful and so beautiful it would be a shame to not present to a larger audience. The indigenous actors have gathered from afar and worked hard at their performance. I would guess they need to go home and recharge but later maybe could be persuaded to recreate their parts.

Personally I dont think it is suited to Broadway but, what do I know?

You do have smaller theatres in New York where it might play very well.

Oh sure, HUNDREDS of them. (And those are the ones we can usually get freebies for. laugh123 )

In another thread I was talking about forgetting words. While lying awake last night I suddenly remembered that I had titled this thread - The Watering Hole - what a perfect example. Of course, it is the breathing hole as anyone who read the accompanying article would know. This forgetfulness is seeping into everything I do. It hadnt affected my writing before. Also the semi review I gave was badly written. I think maybe it's time to bite the bullet and go to the doctor with this problem

I will always wish you well! It saddens me that distance and circumstance has made it that much more difficult to further our acquaintance.
I expect that you miss Terri as I do also! I'm having a hell of a time getting past her demise!
