A good show last night called THE BARONESS - Isak Dinesen's Final Affair
by Thor Bjørn Krebs (Denmark)

Isak Denison was the pen name for Karen Blixen. She most famously wrote OUT OF AFRICA which was semi-biographical. This was set late in her life:

Quote:

Karen Blixen, who wrote under the name Isak Dinesen, brought us such epic tales as Out of Africa and Babette's Feast as well as her Seven Gothic Tales. The latter introduced her to The United States and gave her the recognition she embraced. In 1948 at age 62, Blixen is at the pinnacle of her fame when she is introduced to the newly renowned 29-year-old Danish poet Thorkild Bjørnvig by his publisher’s beautiful wife, Benedicte. The Baroness takes him under her wing and the two share a powerful, dangerous and intimate friendship. What follows is a tale of passion, courage, art, love and lust between a young ambitious poet, a grand dame of literature, and the charming young wife of their patron. Karen Blixen was larger than life and she is coming back to the stage in the humorous and passionate tale of her final love affair.

Beautifully written and performed study of life, love, and art.

Poor woman was given syphilis on her wedding night by her philandering husband and spent a lifetime being pumped with mercury and arsenic causing a life of pain...so her final love affair was, of course, platonic but nevertheless moving and powerful.
A good night at the theater.

The show has played around the world, so if it's ever in your area, I recommend it.

I think I need to see OUT OF AFRICA again. (Streep and Redford)
