I want to pick up an Ikea Queen bed with the storage drawers. I looked at it in the store and like it better than more expensive ones that come intact. I would like to store sheet sets, bath towels, and free up room in my linen closet for some of my small cooking appliances. Does anyone know how much skill is needed to put it together ? My SIL has a truck and offered to pick it up with me My son could do it next time he is here but that may be some time. They are on sale so I have to get it soon. I have a new mattress coming on Tuesday and they will take my old one. |

No problem putting those IKEA things together. They even supply the tool. Just take your time doing it. |

I haven't worked with IKEA but I have assembled cabinetry from other manufacturers. Usually they will provide a list of the tools that are required to do the job. Its important to follow their assembly directions or you may end up having to disassemble prior work to get the pieces to fit. REAL IMPORTANT! I have found that these DIY projects are screwed, clipped or held together with CAM assemblies. Its my opinion that white carpenter glue should be used wherever surfaces abut each other. With usage, mechanical fastens tend to become loose and allowing things to come apart. In most cases, I have found that it requires two people to do the job as there are situations where your arms aren't long enough to support a unit until the fasteners are put in place. |

In a weak moment I bought a large desk to put together. It took about half day. Nice desk until I had to move and couldn't get it out of the room due to size and weight. I demolished it. Since that disaster, I purchased furniture that was simple. |

Like Wildie I haven't worked with Ikea before, although I have with other makers. Is the bed like the one pictured? Posted Image Although it's easy enough to put together, with the size of the bed comes weight and that may make the construction awkward for you. At least you won't have to move the bed out of the bedroom like Durgan's desk! |

Almost identical to the one pictured only it has a plain headboard and is in black brown. I don't know why I. feel guilty buying a new bed and mattress. I still have a waterbed frame and a mattress with a piece of wire coming through . It must be close to 20 years old and is starting to be hard and uncomfortable . It just seems like a lot to spend. I will try and build it at my own pace. My daughter could help if I get stuck. Today I am vacuuming and shampooing the carpet. I managed to get the old bed apart and put the pieces in the backyard. The screws were stripped which made it hard to take apart. |

Well done. Sometimes DIY can be a pain. But IKEA has a good reputation. |

It's certainly much easier when you've got some to help you. |

I think Ikea offers you help to put things together if you need it and pay for it. |

Looks nice OO. Some of those pieces look quite large. Be sure to get your daughter in to help. No need to get hurt doing it. |

Screw the 5 screws in the Gvaald. Attach the Gvaald to the 4 small Zornen while holding the Kleiber firmly (see illustration #614.)

We bought IKEA kitchen cabinets for our laundry room. They are really good quality and I wouldn’t hesitate to put them in a full kitchen. That said, that’s all I know and the construction was straight forward as there weren’t many parts. Also the doors are self-closing which is a really nice feature. You can do it, I have put together knock downs myself. If you get stuck there is normally a toll free number to call and they will guide you. |
