We have a bathtub purchased about 20 years ago. It all works but the trim on the jets are losing their chrome plating. Any ideas on where to buy new ones? They are easily removable and easy to scrape away the chrome plating from the plastic base. Maybe they could be painted or covered with stick on shelf cover material? Posted Image |

I think I would give them a good scraping and then use this. You will need to choose a color to go with your bathroom color scheme. Probably the hardest part of the job is removing the last remnants of the fake chrome. P.S. I HATE chrome plated plastic...it never hold up. Maybe replacement parts are available here. That would be easiest. Edited by Trotsky, Mar 8 2018, 09:01 AM.

Thank you very much! The “chrome” is like tinfoil and peels off with a razor blade so it looks like you have an excellent solution to the problem. |

Here in my town there are plating shops! I would suggest that you would search the yellow pages of a nearby, major city and take them there! |

The nearest major city is more than 500 km away. I actually knew about electroplating on plastic because Nobel Physicist Richard Feynman did that work as a summer job before WWII in New York. He discovered something that made it work better and gave his employer an edge over the competition. Feynman seemed able to turn his physical insight to any problem and solve it. He is the one who found out what happened when a space shuttle launch blew up after a cold weather launch. The thing is the chrome didn’t stick very well on the nozzles and DW got some cuts from the edges that lifted so I’d rather not have the metal plated finish. If it was just me I would be fine with the white plastic but I expect she will go for painting. |

Delphi, Was second link of any use in finding an exact replacement? Replacing the heads would be far less work than scraping and spray painting them. |

Curious, I remember the link to the paint but now I can’t find any link in your posts. I did search for replacement nozzles and found many types, none like ours, and rather high prices. |

Delphi, The link is the word, "here." I see it in red, not sure what color you choose for links. It is the last word in the penultimate sentence. |

Okay, found it - dark blue. I see there is quite a variety available. None that look just right, though. I’ll take a look at Home Depot and Rona next time we are in the city. |

I didn't see the links at first either. They posted blue for me, too but the blue blended and looked like the black next to it. My default color on links is same blue, so I go bold to help them stand out. Nothing linked to these. Just saying, the blue is hard to distinguish unless I zoom in. Trotsky, would Krylon work for something like that? Or is there something in the Rust-Olem that makes it preferable? More "rust" proof? |

It might, but there are two requirements: it must be water resistant and have a strong solvent to bind it to plastic. |

Posted Image After two weeks, it still looks good! Just spray paint from the hardware store with plastic listed in the directions. Thank you very much, Roger! I found a store called Emco in Grande Prairie (city of 50k people) that had a warehouse full of bathroom stuff. The clerk said there were thousands of types of nozzles and she would have to have a part number to order. There is no number on the nozzles, so out of luck buying new ones. Anyway, I like the inexpensive alternative and good riddance to metal plated plastic. |
