They were preparing for this when we were in the Gold Coast. Expecting 700,000 people.

I forgot how many countries and territories were involved. Hopefully everyone is enjoying the events, win or lose.

Watching the opening ceremony match of nations I was amazed at how many countries were under British Rule at some time in their history.
Being totally ignorant, did the US ever have colonies?
I know most of the European ( Dutch, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese) nations had colonies through exploration and annexation.

Several countries that were never under British rule have recently joined the Commonwealth ... Mozambique, Rwanda, Cameroon, Togo

Thanks for the update. I had thought Cameroon and Mozambique were originally French. History and geography , never my best subjects at school.
