Bath suggestions

We have a regular bathtub, 5 feet, about a foot too small. The runoff is placed so rhat the tub is only a little more than half full. I would like to have a nice long soak but not with half my body out of the water.

Any easy suggestions for circumventing that runoff and getting a couple more inches of water in the tub? Back in Jersey city, I just removed the chrome toggle and runoff cover and stuffed a washcloth into the hole...a lot of trouble for one bath.

How about Plastic wrap covering the chrome piece held in place with 4 small magnets? Or would that leak too much?

ANy ideas?

Anything to add to the water to combat dry skin?

<I guess I need a sign for the tub: NO DIVING.>

I’m thinking of a piece of rubber, perhaps cut out of an old tire tube, that would fit over the overflow. Maybe a large suction cup. Toilet plunger head? If it has only a small opening, you might try a wad of plumber’s putty, the gum that is used to stick things on a wall, or chewing gum.

I try and stuff the face cloth into the holes. Sometimes works, sometimes not.

apparently years ago you could buy a gizzmo that fitted the drain but not anymore.

Why is the run-off hole so low? Is that a normal height for most baths in your area?
Believe it or not neither our bath tub nor hand basins have a run-off hole. Our old ones the heavy enamelled cast iron baths certainly used to ... but the fibreglass ones haven't.
I just went to check the position of the hole, and found that neither had them.

No experience. But it may have some merit.

That Amazon Deep Water Bath might work if it is wide enough to accommodate the lever used to lift and lower the stopper. which means the inside of the bulb bulb needs to be near 4 inches. It MIGHT be big enough, it might not.

So here's the plan: I will remove the lever and housing and stuff the hole with rags and take a bath. If it is a pleasant experience and worth the trouble I will put it together again and order "Deep Water Bath." It will fit or it won't and if not, I will try my first Amazon return: grrrrrrr.

One last thought: Perhaps I could take off the fixture, disconnect the rods that connect it to the drain plug (missing since we bought the place and successfully rotate the fixture so the drain opening is on TOP instead of the bottom. This would get me about 3 inches more water: enough. Success depends on how close the mounting holes are to dead center.

Did a fix...4 pictures step by step.
1. remove 2 screws
2. pull out drain closing rod
3. disconnect rod
4. reinstall plate upside down.

<Now I need a toothbrush and some cleanser. laugh123 I should have cleaned before the photo shoot.>
The water now drains in at the top of the round plate rather than at the bottom. I reckon I get about 2 inches more water in the full tub.

Looking forward to my first bath in 30 years.

A piece of bicycle inner tube stretched over the chrome fixture hole to stop the water leaving.

Should be just about the right size. If not customize it using rubber cement.

Well I had bath #1...a learning experience. I filled the tub and checked the temperature: 110F (too hot) I waited about 15 minutes and the temperature had fallen to 107. (While waiting I cut my hair.) Hot but still comfortable, I lowered myself in carefully because every fast movement set off another tsunami wave that wound up on the floor. Thank heavens our floor is flagstone over concrete, pretty waterproof.
Bob was doing the wash, so no towel, no shower curtain. At first, I thought, no shower curtain was perfect for the bath, but then I realized you cannot wash your hair in bath water without a rinse. I put the shower onto a trickle flow and rinsed my hair...more water onto the floor, more mop-up.

Aniother wrinkle, the wall side of the tub has only a 1 inch of tub lip exposed so hoisting myself up was a chore and the one slip and back down created a wave sufficient to wipe out small villages...more mopping.

Upside: scrubbing my skin felt like I was removing at least 3 layers of dead skin, pedicure afterwards was thorough with soft nails and cuticles...I grated off about a mm. of callous on my heels. Bathroom floor is SPANKING clean, as am I. This morning, my skin feels much less dry, a nice plus.

It was a lot of trouble, so I will go through it only every couple months with better planning next time. Water level was fine, any higher and it would have been totally unmanageable. I wish my new gym had a hot tub like my old one...that would be a lot easier.
A large goblet of Cabernet or Malbec would have made for a nicer experience but May is a teetotal month.

There are those suction cup type of handles sold at health stores that you can use to help yourself out of a tub.

I use them when taking a shower. The only alternative is to install the permanent ones directly to a stud. Oops. I should have said wall.
