has been written to all the animals that helped to win the two world wars. I have just been reading snippets of the lovely stories of dogs who helped with mine seeking and one with a machine gun strapped to him. Plus the elephants and pigeons who did their bit as well. The book tells of a Pointer dog named Judy who was the only dog kept POW by the Japanese. Her citation for an award read 'For magnificent courage and endurance in Japanese prison camps, thus helping to maintain morale among her fellow prisoners and for saving many lives by her intelligence and watchfulness.' Its a must read for me. Its called THE ANIMALS' WAR by Juliet Gardiner. |

I always felt sorry for the horses in WW1. I read about one that came from New Zealand, I think the only one that they brought back again. He ended his days in pleasant meadows. |
