I had to take my dog ( Gigi ) to the vets this afternoon. She has been chewing her paws and today she has gone off her food. I have been treating her paws with a special shampoo that I had from the vets last time I took her. However this has not helped. I now have a spray to put one puff in her food each day and steroid cream to apply to her feet and she has to have two 4mg Piriton allergy tablets a day to help with the itchiness. I was told to get one of those big collars to stop her licking her paws. I had no intentions of putting her in a ruddy great collar so that she could not lie down properly so I have been and bought some baby socks to put on her feet to stop her licking the steroid cream off until its done its job. Just taken this photo of her after the first application of steroid cream.  Posted Image |

Hi everyone, I had to get Gigi to the vets again this morning. She was going crackers with the itching BUT I also noticed that she kept her bottom on the floor. I wasn't happy about her and my lovely d-i-l came and took us to get Gigi checked over. It seems as though she also has a very sore anus due to filled anal sacs apart from her paws. No wonder the poor little soul was growling in frustration because she could not get at it. The vet has given her a steroid injection and an antibiotic one a well. I have antibiotic tablets to give her starting from tomorrow. I bathed her this afternoon because she stunk where the vet had been prodding at her anal sacs She smells a lot better and is a little calmer. God! how on earth anyone can see an animal suffer is beyond me because I could have wept for Gigi this morning. My d-i-l was concerned about me and my blood pressure because I was all worked up about Gigi. What a ruddy morning.  Heres hoping that the antibiotics work and the steroid injection. Got to take her back next Saturday for another steroid injection and a check up. |

She is a little calmer now Ocali thankyou. I am only hoping she will be OK when its bedtime because last night she threw herself about in such frustration because she could not reach the part that she wanted to lick. She had a little walk this afternoon but turned round herself to come home. Mind you its turned extremely warm here and with her wiry coat she feels the heat. Having said that she was on the lawn earlier in the same position as she is in the photo with her belly open to the sun. I have to watch she doesnt get sun burn. |

Thanks Jezzie. She is a lot better this morning but I feel worn out with looking after her and my hubby. Never mind as long as she is perking up I dont mind. She enjoyed her walk this morning and now I am getting ready to go and see a WW2 veteran and his wife for an hour before I get my dinner cooked. I cant do much for hubby until he has his first knee op. Then he has to go to see about his deformed foot through arthritis before he can have he can have the other knee done. Thanks everyone for your concern. Maisie. |

Thanks Ann, I had a lovely hour or so with the veteran and his wife and it helped me to unwind. Gigi has been very subdued all day but I put it down to the antibiotics. Cheers Maisie. |
