'Britain's most famous atheist', as he's now regularly dubbed, has the same disdain for Christmas as he has for all other religious observances. But while Richard Dawkins's impassioned atheism has brought him ever-increasing numbers of admirers - his latest book, The God Delusion, has sold more than 200,000 copies in hardback - it has also roused his enemies to new heights of fury. In America, where he has recently been lecturing, the Religious Right refer to him, quite without irony, as 'The Devil Incarnate'. Richard Dawkins

Have just finished reading "The God Delusion" I can see why the Religious Right are calling him "The Devil Incarnate" On pp31: "The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic. capriciously malevolent bully" That's for starters. If I had posted this in "Spirirtuality" all hell would break loose, even though it is a quotation. I would expect Richard is unfased, he does not believe in the Devil, Satan or all the other biblical characters. Way to go !
