Posted Image Kapiti Island on the west coast of the North Island. This rugged island was the Pa (fortress) for Te Rauparaha, the maori Napoleon when he was raiding the lower part of the North Island and the northern South Island. This is now one of the island rescue sanctuaries for endangered wildlife. Posted Image Looking southwestward towards the South Island across the approaches to Cook Strait. Posted Image Looking northward from the top of Paekakariki Hill up the coastal sweep of the North Island towards Paraparaumu and Waikanae. |
