Rescued Falcon Chick Released Into Wild SANTA CRUZ, Calif. A falcon chick hatched from an egg rescued from the Bay Bridge reluctantly took flight into the wild. The 42-day-old peregrine, dubbed ''Little G,'' spent her first hour of freedom Saturday perched on the side of a building at the Long Marine Lab at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she dined on quail meat. ''A release is a process, not an event,'' said Glenn Stewart of the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group. Little G was raised by researchers who took her egg from her parents' precarious nest under the bridge. Ornithologists said any chicks hatched on the bridge would have faced almost certain death from a car collision or a fall into San Francisco Bay. http://www.happynews.com/news/632007/rescu...leased-wild.htm |
