Has anyone here ever used Avant Browser. I know about IE and MSN and AOL. I used to have Netscape years ago. I have Firefox downloaded and use it when I cannot get something to work on IE but keep IE as my default. I am reluctant to change yet. I am going to get something to back my computer up to and might change and restore at same time but not for a bit yet. I don't know which are the preferred anymore. |

I was using the AOL browser and ran into probs. AOL tech suppot told that their browser is a modified IE and that you don't need this. Use IE and there should be no more trouble. |

To further my last post, I'm mystified why some people seem to have trouble with Firefox. I always use it and have never had any problems what so ever! |

Hello Kahu and VickiNC; I sure hope you two see this message. I found this topic by searching. Strange, I posted myself almost a year ago on this thread. Took me till last month to try to make Firefox my default. I am about to switch back to IE7. What Kahu posted is exactly the problem I have. Where I post frequently, I use the formatting a lot. Right now if I go to the same forum and do a post using Firefox and using IE, only one will do it right. I can do it with Firefox but if I wanted a word in Bold, Underline, and Red, I would have to 're-highlight' the word each time I clicked on a different format, or the last ones would have both the beginning and ending tags, AFTER, the word.. I cannot believe it doesn't work. VickiNC; Do you ever use formatting on the message boards. I have just put a lot of new things on and am about at wits ends with this and close to going back but would like to find out how to get around it, if there is a way. I have read and read and searched on Mozilla site. Appreciate the help. I also have Thunderbird Email now and cannot find anyone with that either and I gave up on a good spamblocker. I had Outlook Express and it didn't have one and I changed and now am really confused. I got hit with spam a few weeks back. I just hate to change my email address again. Thanks for any help. |

Hey Mary, Kahu is on vacation right now, but I'm sure he'll comment on this when he returns. The Bold, Underline, Etc...functions don't work on some forums if you're using Firefox. I still use it, because I think it's a safer browser. I love the add-ons you can get. I don't care for IE because I don't care much for MicroSoft anymore. Since we were switched to Zetaboards, Firefox can do all of those things on WWS now. So that's great. It seems it's always worked on for me on Day 2 Day with COPD. To be honest, I don't post on that many forums. But I don't think there is a work around for this. Pete uses Avant, I think. I'm sure he'll comment for you. As for Thunderbird, I use that, too, Mary, and love it, as well. If you get a lot of spam, just click the little fire icon after the subject of the email when it comes in, and it will move it to your junk folder (you have to create a new folder in your email, and name it junk/spam/whatever...). The more you click, the more the program will learn, and then it will just junk it for you before it goes into your inbox. Then you can check it to make sure nothing you wanted went in there, and then just select all messages, and delete. |

The formatting still doesn't work in Firefox, Vicki. At least for me. Of course you can always get bold by putting a "(b)" before and a "(/b)" after the part you want to bold. Use square brackets rather than round ones. I forget how to do color, but all the commands are available to view somewhere at Invision.com. Mary, the best way to deal with spam now is at your email server (probably at your internet service provider). I think all the providers offer free spam control - all you have to do is log into your account there and turn it on. It works far better because the ISP's computers can quickly see when the same message goes to thousands of its customers and they can do more sophisticated tests than your email program can. |
