My computer is really slow lately. I have been trying to find a reason why.

I notice that when I click the Start button - I have two icons in there for Internet Explorer. One is the little e with a blue line though it and the other is the little e with a yellow line through it.

How come I have two icons and can I get rid of one and if so how?

You have full control of the start menu. Right click Start, then choose "open all users" and finally open the "programs" folder. This special folder has only subfolders and shortcuts. You can delete any of these without actually deleting any programs; they are just shortcuts. Delete the duplicate you want to get rid of.

This will not speed up your computer.

Liz,

It sounds like you might have 2 versions of IE on, like IE6 and IE& (which has the bigger "e" with the yellow line (which is a planetary orbit.)

In addition to removing the shortcut as Delphi instructs, you might look into tossing the older version of IE also...might be tough though.

I did what you said Delphi51 - and there was actually NO icon for Internet Explorer under Programs!!

Funnily enough, even though one has a yellow line through it on the Start Menu - and the other has a blue line through it on the Start menu. When they are open, they both have a yellow line through the "e" and both say they are version 7.0.5730.11.

Any more suggestions? Not that its hurting anything. I guess I will leave it where it is and it will go away again like it arrived - secretly in the night!

Any icon on your desktop can be removed, merely by right clicking the icon and choosing DELETE from the menu. It just removes the icon, the program still remains intact.
If you wish to know where the program is stored, right click again, choose Properties and you will see its location in the TARGET box.
If you do this with both icons and they have the same target, it means that you just have an extra copy of the same icon.
If the target is different, it may mean that you have two different versions of the same program.
