I got to be something of a pro filling my large inkjet carts on my HP 3450. So I had ink backed up. It made me DOUBLY pissed when it blew a gear because my learning curve was all for nothing (and only a madman would buy the same junky machine.)

Right now I'm on two printers: a 9-pin for junk jobs that gets re-inked with stamp pad ink connected to the printer port and the monochrome laser on USB for letter quality correspondence.

I don't think I'll ever do color again because color laser is too expensive and infrequent use of color inkjets cause frequent clogs of full cartridges.

For colored photos, I'll walk to Target in the back yard and print my own color prints for $.19 for a nice 4 x 6.

For REAL, no 3.25" bays on new computers  ...I thought I was being so smart stockpiling a couple floppy drives.

Trotsky, if I had the same exposure to the trash that you have, I'd have parts galore, and be building whatever sort of machine I wanted, with only a nominal outlay of funds. Start building your own, even from a bare bones machine, and you'll get a leaner, meaner computer for your bucks, and you can have whatever sort of bays you choose.

Yeah Vicki, I'm sure there will be a way for me to guarantee that I will ALWAYS have a floppy drive in my computer.
(Hey, you should see the 1000 LP's I have and the nice audio hookup to play them.)

I'm tempted to "barebones" the next rig.

Over the years I have assembled more than a dozen computers, but my last desktop, I bought a package without an operating system. Its a PIV 2.8 meghertz, 1/2 gig of memory and a 80 gig h/d. Box only!
It cost less than $300 and its hard to buy parts for assembly for this much.
Later on I bought a SATA 320 gig h/d and another 1/2 gig of memory on sale.
Package deals can be very attractive.
