Interesting NZ story in Canadian news

I'm sure this isn't unique to New Zealand, but CBC is reporting it happened there . . .

WELLINGTON, New Zealand - A Canadian family vacationing in New Zealand were counting their losses Monday after hotel staff gave a stranger access to their room - where he made off with valuable possessions and their passports and ran up a room service tab in their name.

The con man tricked staff at the Quay West Hotel in the northern city of Auckland into letting him into the Black family's room by pretending he was drunk and had lost his room access key.

Once inside, the intruder took the visitors' money, computer and passports before ordering a meal and drinks in their name, local media reported.

He then nipped into the hotel bar for a glass of expensive Drambuie liqueur on the family tab before making off with three bags of loot.

The Black family - Ricky and Evelyn and their children Emily, 12, Olivia, 10, and Andrew, 7, of Montreal - were out at dinner when the man persuaded a hotel receptionist to give him a key to their room.

They believe the con man got their name from their baggage tags in the lobby earlier in the day.

Ricky Black said he may have to cancel a 10-day business trip to Asia because his stolen passport included a visa to enter China.

I made a post about this story earlier today in NEWS Delphi.......it certainly is not a good look at all for the tourism industry in this country. There's an object lesson of what not to do by hotel hospitality staff!

But now for the good news.......

In the late bulletins on tv tonight it has been reported that the offender had been caught, together with the stolen property, but there is name suppression at the moment because a female accomplice is still to be apprehended.

I think that he's referring to French National terrorists, rather than French Canadian terrorists. signs081

Thankfully, French Canadian terrorists, terrorize Floridians for a portion of the winter and aren't here to terrorize we Anglos.
If Harper had any sense, he would have called the election for February, while all the separatists are in Florida. biggrin 04
