If you have MS Office 2000 or later and don't want to spend hundreds of $ to get the 2007 version, download this compatibility pack from Microsoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en

They also have a free viewer: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=3657CE88-7CFA-457A-9AEC-F4F827F20CAC&displaylang=en

And there is a converter (converts to html so you can view it with your web browser)
http://docx-converter.com/
There is an online version as well as a program you can download to do it at your place.

Well, let's see, the last version I paid full price for was . . . . . . wasn't!
For years Microsoft allowed teachers to take it home from school free (they love us because we brainwash kids into thinking Word is the ONLY word processor).
Then they offered Office 2003 for $30 and I bought it . . . but never opened it. I'm using Office 2000, possibly illegally since I'm retired now. I like that version because it restored one of the features of 95 that was changed in 97, and there was nothing new I liked in 2003. 2007 is easier to use once you get used to it, but of course there is less space on the screen to type because of the big ribbon at the top. One of these days I must get going on Open Office.

Did you see my post in the news about some open source people suing their government for not giving open source a fair chance when buying office software?

You are perfectlly legal. The rule is basically if you have paid for ANY license, you can use any older version and you bought that 2003 version.

When I ever reformat, I am going to switch to Open Office but not before. I don't trust UNINSTALLS of MS OFFICE because it has blown up in my face before.

(Oh, I DO have a legal WORD 2000 that I got with my puter...but I still prefer WORD PAD as more straightforward and less NANNY!)
