Can I assume all of you still with Win XP have taken the upgrade to SP3. MS keeps trying every morning to give it to me but I've been putting them off: "I'd LOVE to kiss you but I JUST washed my hair"...waving cigarette madly. :dcncing stick man:

Are there any time-bombs I should know about?

(Apologies if this was covered in another thread...if so, I couldn't find it.)

I don't have it. I allow Windows Update to do whatever it likes, so I probably have most of the parts but my control panel - system still says "service pack 2"

I heard somewhere that it is all security stuff and I think it is all blown out of proportion, so I see no reason to bother with it.

Interesting to read this dis: http://news.cnet.com/dont-install-windows-xp-service-pack-3-yet/

Well I bent over yesterday and let Microsoft have its way with me.
Lo and behold I THINK things are moving a little faster with SP3. It's noticeable on boot-ups and shut-downs.
Other than that I see no difference.
So, have no fear...Bill Gate will be GENTLE with you!

The load toook about 20 minutes and a restart at 1500 Kbps down speed...I have a hunch they replaced the entire operating system.

edit:
Yep, the computer IS much faster...I'm not talking about internet functions but rather basics like opening Outlook Express in the blink of an eye.

If they offer it, take it.

I am still skeptical but I guess I will work up my nerve and do it! Being a procrastinator, I am sure it will still take me a couple of days yet.

No,
I read the phrase "full system backup" and my first thought is always "Yeah, RIGHT!"

My idea of a full system backup is to make sure I remember where I put the installation disc for Windows XP and still know how to type the phrase: FORMAT C: :joexmo:

(Don't worry Bitsy, the SP3 load is a piece of cake!)

basically I am somewhat lazy so did no backup. I don't know if it is more beneficial or not to my system, but it is there and all is fine.
