Hi I hope someone might be able to instruct me how to recover my "Sent" messages folder in Outlook Express. I was trying to send a message, but I wasn't sure if it was sent, so I opened the "sent box, and all my messages disappeared right before my eyes. Also, I cannot send messages in OE and they are still in the outbox. I have a programme called, "Driver Cure" ( paid version) and I don't know it it is related to the problem. Same day, that, the "sent Box" disappeared, I ran driver cure, and it said, I needed to update some drivers, among those, Intel. So I did, but when it was 93% downloaded, I got a pop up message saying that it was not compatible with Microsoft and to contact my vendor. I thought I had pressed "cancel" but probably I hit "continue" ( by mistake, and the insatallation was completed). After that, I was not able to boot my computer, and I had to bring it to the shop. When it came back, I found a new folder called "Recovered Files". All the sent messages are there, but how do I bring them back to Outlook Express? When I clicked on it, I was asked: "With which programme do you want to open this file?" Obviously I chose " Outlook Express": from the list I was given. Well, Outlook Express opened, but without the sent messages, and the "Outbox" does not work either. I use Outlook Express, because, it is the programme connected to my photo software. (Photo Impression 5) When I want to send a picture, it is sent automatically through "Outlook". I tried to connect it to Hotmail, but the files do not attach to the message. I would appreciate any help you might be able and willing to give me, Thank you! Missus |

Looks like a good program, Toodles! Outlook messages do seem to have a habit of disappearing and it is awkward to make backups. Where does Outlook store those .dbx files? Are attachments inside those files or stored separately? I have never been able to find Outlook attachments, perhaps because I don't use the program myself. My email program keeps them in a folder named "attachments" inside its program folder, which seems very logical to me but not to Microsoft. |

Missus, Try this first. You said there was a file on your computer called "Recovered Files" with all your meessages. Just make sure you knnow the route to the file, like C:/desktop/recovere files, etc. Open Outlook Express and click FILE>IMPORT and then have OE look in the recovered files folder for an IMPORT. THat MIGHT work. I have had no end of trouble recovering .dbx files for outlook express every time I reformat. Sometimes it's impossilbe and I have to operate OE from scratch. |
