goldengal: i am so sorry you are having all this stress about your brother, after going through all that with Louie so recently.

I wonder, is it possible you or your daughter could take Mitzie home, so as to ease the burden of taking care of her? And about trying to clean a smoke ruined apartment - I hope you will not try to do that yourself. If there is any way you could afford it, a cleaning company could do it - though likely not cheap.

As others have said, do take care of yourself.

Thanks nainai ..... He has been told when he vacates the apartment, they will have to steam clean his apartment which they had to do with the last one where he was for 8 years, and he has been in this one I think for around 10. Fortunately, I have always liked cleaning dirty places because we can see a huge difference, but this is going to take lots of time.

I just called the hospital now, and they had him down to OR, but the surgeon wants more tests so perhaps something is going on. They are moving him to another unit where he will have more specialized care. Must say I have had a bad feeling about this from the outset. There is no way I could go downtown today as I am totally bushed after yesterday. I brought many clothes home, and did 8 loads of laundry and two of those loads had to be done the second time as I could not get the brown stains out. I have used Iron Out on such stains before with much success. Tomorrow I will go to the hospital as my family will return late tonight, and I can be out as long as necessary.

On a lighter side, last Wednesday evening when my grandson and his friend slept here, the clock radio alarm was set for 3:45 a.m., and guess what? It is still going off at that time. Savannah came running downstairs to let us know, and up we got and they went out for a sec. They did let me stay in bed until almost 6 this morning though.

Mitzy, Ray's cat, is very friendly, but much too large. she is a long haired domestic grey and white. I noticed yesterday her back end is a tad messy. Any cat people have suggestions for cleanup? It has been almost 20 years since I have had cats.

I receive a horoscope each day from Yahoo Alerts, and it is uncanny how 'right on' they are most days for me. This is today"s

Try not to worry too much about everything that is going on around you -- even if (as is likely) events are constraining your actions. It's just one of those days, and things do get better soon.

Pat - what a great relief to you that your brother signed the release form and that Harley is safe and sound.

You are stressed to the max. Please take care - no one can stay balanced with the kind of pressure you've been under.

Maybe it would be good to speak to your daughters and your s-i-l and ask for someextra tender love and care for yourself. Sometimes you do need to ask. :)

Hi there ..... So far no surgery as Ray's BP has not come up sufficiently to operate. I forget who it was that mentioned perhaps they could apply a nicotine patch, and late last night the nurse told me he has one on. This morning I hope to speak with a doctor. While he does have a GP, he has not had a physical ever, and I fear there are many conditions that have yet to be diagnosed.

My older daughter is going most days to feed the kitty and clean the litter box, and I am going there today after my dental appointment and will stay until evening (well until half hour before darkness as I do not like driving at night). My daughter I live with is in charge of a manufacturing company and has plants in 5 or 6 different locations in Canada and the U.S. so it is difficult for her to help me out here, but I have told her that I have to ask them to take Montana to the lake with them on the weekend. I will miss her a lot, but it will allow me to be out for much longer times.

My grandkids got a Husky puppy on the weekend as both their birthdays are this month. I will not be here when they arrive for dinner, but will get home before they leave. I will miss seeing how each of our dogs react to this puppy, and especially Harley as the puppy will be bigger than he is. So far though, we have not met anything he is afraid of. I do not know if this is usual with wee dogs, but Harley can bounce up in the air almost 2 feet when waiting at the door for his people to come in the door, and also at the patio door when he needs out.

Unfortunately, these days I do not have a lot of time to post, but this looks like such a friendly place.

Take care,
Pat

Hi there .... Have not had much time to write this week. Wednesday night Mandy and Andrew brought Corri, the Husky puppy over, and what a sweetie she is. She is a pale silver with white and a tiny bit of beige on the top of her head and I think one hip. She and Harley ran around like crazy.

As far as Ray goes, surgery should take place today. Finally, a doctor called me yesterday afternoon to tell me just how very serious his situation is, and I could well see that when I visited him last night. In two days he had deteriorated so much. He is extremely high risk for surgery. However, if they do not do it soon, he will just wither up and die as he has been doing in the past week. He did not know me last night, but then he is on so many medications now. I must say that in view of the fact Ray never took care of his body in any way shape or form, he has had the best of care. He has had 4 teams caring for him - Ortho, Cardio, Medicine (for the blood as it is so thin) and Anaesthesia. I feel that they are doing thei best in an almost impossible situation.

Last night my older daughter took Misty (yes Ray told me it is Misty and not Mitzy as she was called when she came to him) to her home, and will keep her until Ray is able to come back to his apartment, and if he does not make it, she will keep Misty so that is a huge worry off my shoulders. Misty is not used to dogs and Dana has Tyson, a 10 year old Golden. Initially, Misty will be kept apart from Tyson. Tyson was accustomed to a cat in the house for years until he passed a couple of years ago so perhaps he will accept Misty long before she will accept him.

It is never easy to see people close to death's door. It seems I have been there for my brother all his life, and I cannot imagine a time when he will not need me. His many phone calls/day, and his volatile temper have often driven me bonkers, but the phone is silent now at the times he used to call.

Take care,
Pat

Pat, just to let you know that you and your brother are in my thoughts, I am loading my car to drive back home. Will read this for an update when I get to London. 1mr

I do hope his surgery goes well. Unfortunately the trauma of his injury and hospitalization as well as the meds are contributing to his mental status and it may well be that his present cognitive status persists for some time. That adds another layer of stress to those who love and care for him.
I'm glad Misty has a home and hope she adjusts. It has been 13 years since Becky (cocker spaniel) joined the household and one of my 2 cats has still not adjusted! She pretty much sticks to upstairs and Boy (the other cat) and Becky have the downstairs.
Thinking of you. Is there some little special something you can do yourself? You deserve it!

I am thinking of you, Pat. I hope that Ray’s health problems will improve with medical intervention, and that you continue to find the strength to deal with this sad turn of events.

and you are coming to visit me when, Pat? Thanks for the chuckle Begete. I needed that right now.

Still no surgery. I was at the apartment for a few hours and am making a wee bit of headway. Another 3 large garbage bags of stuff thrown out.

It has been a day of goofs on my part (nothing new there). I do not pump my own gas and in the city I never find Full Service stations. Gary was going to fill it up for me yesterday, but I asked him to wait until I got home today. Well, on my way to the apartment, I watched the needle going down and then got stuck in construction and began to worry as I knew I would not have enough fuel to get home. I called Gary's father and asked him if he would help me out, and stopped by there en route, BUT I got lost so many times I was getting sick - and all this on a Friday afternoon. Oh and to top it off, I made a left hand turn on a red light at Yonge & Sheppard. I pray there was not a camera there because I honestly cannot say I was already in the intersection - just ticked off that a cement mixer made a left onto Yonge screwing up OUR advanced green.

The doctor who called yesterday told me surgery had to be done within a day. and when I just called the hospital, they said it is not scheduled yet.

Montana is going to the lake with Gary and Kim so I am going to miss her big time until next Thursday, but it works best for me so I can go to the hospital (hope I still have to) and the apartment.

Thanks you guys. You always pick me up, and Fuzzyo, I want to say how much I love Becky.

Darcie ... I could perhaps drive as you do, but where would I find someone to pump gas for me?

Take care,
Pat

Pat, pumping gas is no sweat, come visit me and I will show you how. It is sure easier than cleaning a bathtub, takes 4 minutes.

(((goldengal)))

Glad that Misty is taken care of, at least, that is one thing off your mind.

So hard to deal with the reality of a close relative being in such dire straits. Likely your level of stress is contributing to the problems you have encountered in your driving. Do take care.

I sure hope that Pat is o.k. I usually get her email first thing in the morning. Today I have not heard a word from her.

Maybe Ray is having the surgery that he needs.

She must be exhausted going through all this.

I have just finished speaking with Pat and can say that she has had a busy day today. I can agree that it has been an exhausting time for her and I'm sure she'll be in to post an update when she has a spare moment.
