Having read that I am glad my Becky still prefers her crate at night. In her nearly 14 years I've only had to get up during the night perhaps 5 times in all - well, except when she was a puppy of course. I keep thinking that as she is getting older she may need to go out during the night, but so far so good.

I was thinking of you and this thread this morning Pat, and lo and behold! So good to see you.

Thank you for the welcome back.

Fuzzyo ..... Savannah seldom gets up during the night, but when her people go away, it is a different game. It is most likely my fault too as I thought sleeping in their room, which the dogs are accustomed to, would be a good idea. I recall I did this once a long time ago, and much the same thing happened. Guess we'll have to stay down in my apartment although when we do that Savannah sleeps in the hallway on the main floor, and often she will come downstairs to make sure we are here, and that used to get Harley up. However, Harley did not even get up with the other two during the night so he might be over that. Since Louie has been gone, Savannah is super attached to Gary whereas Harley is attached to both Savannah and Gary.

I want to go for a walk, but will not take Montana if I am not taking the other dogs so will just head out on my own. I am hoping my granddaughter will walk Savannah at least every other day, and I'll take Montana and Harley.

Hope we get enough sun to dry the lawn out a little so I can cut the grass.

Take care,
Pat

What a difference a day makes! Montana, Harley and I slept down in my digs with Savannah guarding the entrance hall. It worked out well as I got 8 hours sleep which I never need, but had two nights at the lake with not much sleep and then Friday night which was a loss so today I am a happy gal. The rain is coming down very steady, and the wind is strong. We are making up for the lake of rain. The dogs will not be doing too much 527 today. So happy I got the grass cut yesterday too.

Take care,
Pat

Glad you got some sleep! It's pouring here too, and I didn't get the grass done yesterday. I like weeding in the rain, but there is so much to do inside that I may decide this is an inside day.

Here we are on the 6th day of eighteen in this dog sitting. It has been pretty well uneventful other than I am up between 4:30 and 5 each day. I keep saying I am going to indulge in a nap, but that only happened once; the day after they had me up so many times during the night.

Likely I have said many times that Harley gets away with so much, and I think it is mainly because he only weighs 9 lbs., and is so fast on his feet, and those of you who have, or have had, small dogs know how quickly they can jump away from you when you are endeavouring to catch them. He is smart as a whip, but at 16 months is still not totally up to par with being house broken. We are on top of that now though, and Harley only had one accident last Saturday. Often I think it is because there is no one near the door to let him out.

When I said our time has been uneventful, I forgot about Monday. Kim's cleaning lady is here on Monday mornings, and usually is finished about 12:45. She hollered down around 12:15 that she was going to have to leave as Harley had chewed one of her black flip flop type shoes. Yikes! She was going to drive home to get another pair of shoes before going on to her next client. I offered her money and told her I was sure we could 'fix' the shoe well enough with electrical tape to make it to one of the many big box shoe outlets in our area, but she was insistent she go home. Turns out this is not the first time Harley has done this, and the last time it was an expensive pair of shoes from The Bay. I suggested she put her shoes up in the future, and I am sure Kim will compensate her for the ruined shoes on her return. They have had this cleaning lady for more than a dozen years at two different houses, and there are not many who would come into a house with 3 dogs (was 4 up until March), and sometimes when there is no human present.

Looks like we are in for much nicer weather today so once it dries up I will cut the backyard - that is after I gather up the many toys; most of which my Montana takes outside. For having 3 dogs, we have a well scooped yard. Montana is a poop eater, but we have devised a new game wherein if she shows me where it needs to be scooped she gets half a wee cookie. It works as long as I am around, but not sure how that goes when I am not doing the dog sitting. :nooo.gif:

Hopefully, they will all get for a walk today.

Take care,
Pat

Other than the early rise 'n shine time (ain't no sun up as early as we are :sigh: ), time is passing quickly. Thank goodness I packed it in half way through Larry King last night as these days are just so long. This morning at 4:30 Savannah came down to check on us, and of course, that got Harley up and running up and down my tummy which is not good first thing in the morning. Montana was displaced by Savannah on the bed so I decided we may as well begin the day.

Just the other day a friend and I were discussing care giving and that those of us who have pets, and more importantly those of us who have them at this stage in life, are care giving every day of our lives 24/7. There is no way you can ignore them when they need out; they have to be fed and watered, and I am the super duper scooper in this household (not much of an achievement, but it is what it is.) :dog_laught.gif:

For sure all wee Harley required was someone paying attention when he waited at the door to put him out so the occasional accident has ceased, and he gets praised for it. He is too comical though as whenever I ask them to do something, he looks at his best bud, Savannah, as if to say "Do you think we have to"?

Must go and check my Lotto Max ticket now, and see if I won a million. If I did, I would buy a place in the country ..... that is after I take my friend on the Alaskan cruise.

Take care,
Pat

Good luck with that million! Haven't quite decided what to do with mine yet. I definitely want a golden, and I think a mastiff, but with 3 quite elderly pets I don't think it's a good idea to bring new ones into the household. Of course there is a distinct possibility that I won't win - although I did actually buy a ticket, more fool me - in which case it's moot.
I agree with your friend about the constant caregiving, especialy (as you well know) when one of the pets has an illness or chronic condition as does one of my cats.
The cats actually decided I should be allowed to sleep until 5 today!

Isn't it great Fuzzyo when we consider being allowed to sleep until 5 is good?

I just went upstairs to measure how high Harley bounces when he is looking out the front door at something, or better still, when one of 'his people' is coming home. He bounces up repeatedly, and the highest mark on window panel adjacent to the door is 45 1/4" which seems high to me for a 9 lb. dog. I have tried Googling, but must not be asking the question properly. He bounces repeatedly, and I might have said before that up until last weekend, I thought it was my son in law hammering in the garage. Since there was no one home but me, I investigated and saw that it was Harley.

Afraid I didn't win anything. I do not usually buy Lotto Max and likely won't again.

Take care,
Pat

I haven't checked my ticket. I think you have to let it simmer awhile before it develops into a winning one!
