Fuzzyo recently answered a post and I learned her pet's name was Boy and I wondered how come???? the name of Boy.

Reminded me of the time I could not think of a name for my cat Kissa, and since Kissa means Cat in the Finnish language she was christened by that name.

So FUZZYO, and anyone else who wants to tell, how did you come by the name of your pet? .....lee

Cricket is my little guy's name. He is part Maine Coon and one of the character traits of Maine Coons is they have a unique little chirp in addition to the regular feline meow. I like to name my cats with names that bear some meaning to their personality. He was only about 8 weeks old when I brought him home from the SPCA and he remained nameless for about a week but went around the house happily chirping. After about a week of listening to this wee tiny creature chirping, I looked at him and told him he sounded like a cricket. At that instant, the lightbulb went on and I knew what his name would be.

Lee unfortunately Boy never got a name. I think at the time I had 4 cats, and his mother Bebe (very Maine Coonish) had a litter. We didn't name the kittens because of course they would all be going to new homes, but for some reason nobody picked the only shorthaired one. We'd started to refer to him as "the boycat" and so he became Boy. There's been something of a tradition of naming the pets with B names, so that was probably part of it. I have Becky (cocker spaniel), Boy and his mother Bebe. Bitsy, Biddy, Boots and Bartholomew are no longer with us.

Pandora was named after the character in the Greek Myth because of all the tragedy in her life before we rescued her.

Several years ago I was on this beautiful trout fishing lake holiday in Devon, where the owners owned a dog named Megan, this dog came down and played with my late Petra, I knew from that day that several years down the line, my next dog will be called Megan.

My late Petra was named after the Blue Peter TV program's dog

I'm on a waiting list for mid next year for another dog, I already have her name, Poppy.

As for Benji, it just seemed to suit him.

Years ago my husband used to say, quite often, " Dont give me that malarkey" I warned him that I would name the next cat we got, Malarkey, and I did. A few years after we got Malarkey we got a beautiful rescued Turkish Angora - because getting him was such a to-do, I named him Kerfuffle which went well with Malarkey. The next was a sweet little girl who I was going to name Chaos but she was so cute I called her Buttercup instead.

My son has a beagle named Poppy - she just adopted him and his wife. After searching unsuccessfully for her owners they decided to keep her - he named her Poppy C Bagel.

Gracie is named after my mum because she loved her bull terriers. From the time I chose Gracie from her litter siblings........I knew she would be called Gracie. The breeder even began calling her Gracie about two weeks before we drove to Michigan to pick her up. I can't imagine her with any other name. 049

Puss-Cat.......is called that because he is. biggrin 04

Our dog is black and was named shadow by his foster parents. His racing name was Chubasco. We liked the name shadow and kept it however every once in a while we call his Chubasco. He doesn't seem to know that name. I think when they are racing the owners have pet names for them and we don't know what he was called.

I had two names picked out for my my new babies...Willow & Honey. Willow I kept as she is very willowy, Honey did not work for the other as she was very standoffish..she is Isis 1089

Our current cat is Zeke. You might say it is sort of a "leftover" name... When my daughter was expecting her youngest, we kidded about names - Jedediah, Zacharias, Ezekial... and meanwhile took to referring to the baby as "Zeke". In the event, it was a girl... she DID pick a "Z" name.

But that left us with "Zeke" unused, so called our next cat that! And of course he is convinced he is a rough, tough cat to go with the name. Not, really, just as sweet and pretty as pie. :catlove:

We no longer have any pets but we had a boxer at one time. He was to be one of two which were to be named Pollux and Castor. Unfortunately Castor never made t beyond puppy-hood but Pollux came home with us.

We also had a cat who wandered down the road one day and adopted us. Like all cats, he was above responding to a name so w called him Cat. It suited him well.
