That's cute! The cat was showing quite a bit of patience with the dog towards the end of the video. I miss watching Comet and Cricket doing that to each other and no doubt Cricket misses it too.

Thanks for sharing Vanilla. It was adorable.

While not a cat and a dog, Harley (the 9 pounder) washes Savannah's and Montana's eyes and refuses to stop. He even washes inside Savannah's mouth. It is a good thing they are so patient with the little guy.

Take care,
Pat

Absolutely loved it!! 023 thankyousign.gif

DH has always wanted a dog (I have always been a cat person) but we never had a dog for 3 reasons:

1 - because we always worked and I have heard you cannot litter train a dog

2 - because I am not a morning person, and would not be very happy if I had to get up early to let the dog out

3 - because I didn't know you could get a cat and dog to get along so well. Do they have to be raised from infancy to adapt so well to each other?

#1 has now been eliminated, as we are retired, but since we live on an Island, when we leave for shopping, etc. it is a whole day we are away. When we went to Seattle 2 weeks ago for a weekend, we could simply leave several bowls of food and water our for Pandora (cat) and an extra litter box, and she was fine. No way to do that for a dog?

#2 - DH is a early riser, but what if he died before the dog?

This caused me to chuckle BJ. #2 - DH is a early riser, but what if he died before the dog?

Back in '82 we had 2 young cats and introduced a Golden Retriever puppy, and they all got along well. A couple of years later we added a Himalayan who became the boss of the lot. I cannot recall there ever being a fight. Duke (the Golden) was best friends with the middle cat Bandit. Every Saturday morning we gathered up the 4 pets and put them in the back of the truck which had a cap on it, and took them to the cottage.

Take care,
Pat

Yes dogs are a commitment but they are worth it, though many people choose between travelling/holidays which wins over, rather than owning a dog.

I remember back where I used to live, my late Petra on how well she got on with a cat that was obviously dog friendly whenever we came across it out in the street, this cat used to come walking towards us and rubbing along side my legs and then alongside my Petra, then it would roll-over as if to want to play, Petra always seemed to look a confused, but was absolutely fine with it.

Begete, how am I doing for spelling 023

When Becky (cocker spaniel) was a puppy she tried soooo hard to teach Boy the dog language for "Let's play!' but it never worked. They are, 14 years later, very comfortable with each other and they will sleep very close but they never cuddle or groom each other. Bebe, Boy's mother, decided that having a dog in the house was more than she could bear and pretty muched moved to the upstairs. She would come down when the dog was in her crate; clearly she recognised the sound of the crate door being closed. She would go out for her 10 minutes in the backyard, come in and give the crate a dirty look and then head back upstairs. Fortunately she prefers kibble so feeding her upstairs was not a problem People would say to me that at some time Bebe would adjust, but as the years wore on it never got any better............until a couple of weeks ago! I can't say Bebe likes Becky, but she is suddenly willing to come downstairs at any time, to eat in the kitchen with Boy and Becky, and even to go outside at the same time Becky does. I truly thought I would never live to see the day. So my take on it is that cats and dogs can co-exist peacefully, the only question is will they.

Vanilla: Do your dogs lick you? Erka never did but Sierra loves to lick (kiss?).

Begete: John is so accommodating - just tell him he can't die before the dog!! He will listen!!

Having a dog was one of the reasons we got into house swap. I wanted to travel but didn't want to put Erka into a kennel. There are lots of pet owners in the same position so we often swapped pets as well as houses.

Good morning Erka, yes both my dogs lick me or kiss me as I like to call it, though Megan is usually after one thing, her dinner, its usually her way of telling me to get a move on she needs feeding biggrin 04

Your house-sitting exchanges sound Ideal, when I last booked our holiday some years ago when both dogs were young, I book them into Kennels, apart from my eldest who stayed with my daughter and her then one dog. I found myself booking a holiday that was the shortest stay, an 8 day trip because I knew how much I would worry over them.
