We left home for the Okanogan in BC Saturday. Today is Tuesday and our elderly cat has not moved her bowels. She is drinking and urinating normally. I know cats are easily upset when their routines are interrupted, but how long can they go without going? Have tried butter on her paw as laxative....nothing. Hvae vet appointment here in 2 hours' time. |

Oh dear BJ ... I likely should not own up to this, but when I lived at the lake one of my friends asked me to take care of Alice, their not so friendly cat. Now she told me Alice was outside when they left in their motor home on the Friday. Alice, at that time, was an indoor/outdoor cat. They lived about half a good size city block from my house. I went down many times on the Friday and Saturday, but no Alice. By Sunday I asked their next door neighbour if he would keep an eye out for Alice. On Monday I was still searching, and one of my daughters asked if I had checked in all the rooms in the 4000 sq. ft. home. Must admit I had not. The doors are extremely heavy oak doors which never made sense to me since the man is in a wheelchair with MD. Anyway, I went throughout the house calling Alice, and lo and behold on the lower floor I heard a faint meow; opened a door, and there was Alice happy as a pig in sh** to see me. Alice who does not like people! I was making a fuss over her, and she was going in between my legs and rubbing them. The crux of this story is Alice had NOT gone to the bathroom in the house from Friday until Monday. It was about 5 p.m. Monday that I found her, and an hour later my friends came home, and called me to thank me for taking care of Alice. I just had to own up and tell them I did not deserve any thanks as I had only found her an hour earlier. It turns out Alice must have sneaked inside the house when my friend went out the patio door for something or other. So perhaps because this was a huge change in Alice's lifestyle much the same as it is in your cat's, it is not a medical problem, but rather the change in lifestyle????? Take care, Pat Edited by goldengal, Oct 6 2010, 10:38 PM.

Hope your buddy is OK now ! 527 Vets use stuff that the Dr. gives us. Just use a little gray matter. I got a kitten with infection in thhe eyes. An outside or barn cat but needs help. Vets here and they are few, won't look at an animal for less than $50.00 then when you get the call to pick them up the bill is in the hundreds. Sooo, I'm using contact eye glass cleaner. Sounds nutty but works ! Know any other home cures ? beat_deadhorse.gif |

For myself, used to use boric acid for mild eye infections- but now they say not a good idea. Probably just wash out with warm water, or a very mild saline solution. nainai |

Things happen fast when your a kitten , faster if you are an outside kitten. The little thing was brought in the house and we were wondering "another one" Well the other eye crusted over then the nose . The wife said it was hungy (no,just breathing) She started to spoon feed it. It died on the third spoon full and on the fourth the wife said it died ? It wouldn't have lasted the night so I kept my mouth shut. The back yard is getting to be a graveyeard for cats. I go down to the shore and get a flat face stone and write their name on it. The pellet gun should be banned here. There is no feeling for animals here and this is why the seal hunt should be shut down, 527 Have to check with gardening to see what the say about a rock garden. |
