NEVER agree to keep your kid's intact male dog when the intact stray female dog you have had for years goes into heat for the first time.

Uhoh. How odd that she had never gone into heat before! Perhaps it took the presence of the intact male to stimulate her estrus. No doubt the puppies will be adorable, looking forward to pictures and stories!

Love is in the air, but no conjugal visits!

Would make for interesting looking"Designer Pups," but I cannot think of a catchy name for a combination Boston Terrier and German Wirehaired Pointer.

Keeping them separated has been easy because we have 3 dogs yards; one large and 2 small. But the male, the Boston, is mournfully howling and anxious, and the girl, the WGP is constantly barking. Not fun AT ALL!

When we found the GWP the vets thought she had just had puppies, but after having her as long as we have I think she was in the middle of a false pregnancy as she has had several since then. If she has gone into heat in the last 5 years if was not noticeable, but is sure is now.

Our 13 month old puppy is "mature" but keeping him away from her has not been a problem . . . so far.
