Google+ Adds ‘Lock Down’ Before You Publish Posts
Oct 5, 2011 | 4:36 PM ET | By Leslie Meredith,

Google today (Oct. 5) added a new feature to Google+ that lets users disable sharing and comments from posts before they’re published. A simple addition, but one that will be appreciated for those concerned about privacy.

In the sharing box where users select the circles or individuals they’d like to share their post with, look for a small arrow that when clicked reveals the two new options. Users may select one or both. Google includes brief explanations: “When you lock a post, people you've shared your post with will no long be able to reshare it with others or mention people you haven't shared it with.” and “Other people cannot leave comments on this post (but they can still +1 and reshare it).”

These security options were previously available only after a post was published, which left a small window of vulnerability. Now users can lock down their posts before sending them, and still go back at any time to change their sharing options.
