Many users swear by this backup program. I swear at it! I thought that I had an intellect problem and finally gave up on and found something else that works for me! Then I happened upon an article that seemed to agree with my take on the program. http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/10things/10-technologies-that-are-just-plain-broken/2896?tag=nl.e101 This is the authors statement about Acronis! Acronis Similar to QuickBooks, when Acronis works, it’s great. When it doesn’t work… it’s a nightmare. And unlike QuickBooks, Acronis help is not so hot. The error codes rarely offer anything insightful. When it breaks, the logs tend to be too cryptic to help. And to make matters worse, ABR11 was a major step backward. Although Acronis tried to introduce new features, as well as roll in features from Echo into ABR10, the result had me uninstalling and going back to ABR10 on many clients. |

Hi Wildie, I can't speak for the latest version of Acronis, but the version I bought in 2008 (True Image 11 Home) has worked great for me. It works without problems on XP, Vista, and Windows 7 and has saved me on several occasions when I've been overly brave or stupid. I've used it to partition and resize drives and reload the operating systems back on. About 5 months ago the main hard drive on my desktop was starting to act up, so I ordered a new larger drive and then cloned the old one on to it, Acronis copied the Vista OS and 2 partitions perfectly. I was up and running on my new drive in about 1/2 hour from start to finish. I take an Acronis image of all my PCs every couple weeks, keep 3 current images, and for the past 3 or so years the practice has served me well. There are features in Acronis I haven't used, but for the main backup and restore part in my opinion is excellent. |

I have Acronis version 9. Maybe it has a bug that was repaired in 10. I now use Easius Backup and am well satisfied with its performance. And it was free! http://www.todo-backup.com/?gclid=CKfD3Num_awCFQoDQAod8XhT6Q Easius also has a partitioning program available also, and I havve found this to be an excellent program also. |

I have used the Easeus Partition Master software to build and resize a few partitions on the fly, it's a very good program for a freebee. |
